V4 Why So Heavy?

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by PerryL, Oct 13, 2025 at 6:01 PM.

  1. I've binned the idea of going to the Morgan factory. I don't care if I can get in and out of one because shelling out over £89 grand on a car carries similar repulsion to being "in" with the crowd and buying a van. Is the line drawn at caravans, or are they now "in"?

Instead, I will attempt for a second time, to walk to Ducati Worcester. One question that I have, is why are Multistradas so heavy? Ducati beats everyone on kerb weight, but the V4 is a fat slob and the V2 is lighter but still a little Miss Piggy by normal Ducati standards.

    I do not understand.

  2. I do not understand? If you can spend that much Buy an Aston Martin DBS or AM V8 pre 80's comfy and quick. Don't get the auto.

  3. I can't spend that much because I just refuse to. Also, there's a question mark over getting my money.

Even getting £85,000 odd to buy out my cousin from our family property business is proving hard.

And it's all my fault. Apparently, I should have Internet banking on my "fortune" but all I have is a chequebook in the name of "for and behalf of the lover who scammed the High Court " or some such. Everybody gets access except me.

When I get home, I'll try again for the company money and will not try it on to buy a new Ducati. Honestly!

  4. Is there another machine that does what this does that’s lighter? It’s only heavy if you have to pick it up :)

  5. I really want to see the new Monster again. I want to check that it really does look awful. I want to better understand where the desire to wrap up a light bike in plastic shit in order to add weight and spoil looks comes from. It mystifies me. How is it allowed?

  6. Streetfighter V2 is the new Monster of old, if you ask me.

  7. because its classed an "adventure bike" .....duh , All other adventure bikes feel the same, heavy to push around the garage but once on the road, the weight disappears and it rides like a normal bike. BMW. KTM, HONDA are all the same and i have ridden them all but the multi v4 is by far the easiest to ride. although as you say, heavy to manouver in the garage. The only bike close to an adventure bike class which is lighter, is a bmw s1000xr, so maybe go and have a look at one of those, but they are not an all purspose bike, but great fun to ride

  8. So a heavy bike adds to the "adventure" does it? I can cheerfully leave it.

I never made it to Ducati Worcester as I just couldn't walk that far. I made it to M & S coffee shop, though. There ,must be something in the water here as the place was full of Mums and babies. And I thought that there was supposed to be a decline in women not working to have families? Not round here! There was a new class just in the M &S coffee shop this morning!

I will visit Riders when I get back home. For me, of interest is the Panigale, the Supersport S, and the Street fighter. I need to see them to choose.

I held off thinking about it when I got that crazy letter from DVLA asking what modifications were needed to my car and can I send them my driving licence back for no reason. I wrote back asking WTF they were talking about as no modifications were necessary, plus I passed their driving evaluation in their own standard manual car? I haven't heard anything more.

Yesterday I called in at the Piston Gin Distillery and they insisted on me trying their samples. I got really into their Tequila and that is what I will load up the car with when I go home. I wanted to do the sampling without having to drive straight after. I might just get one bottle of gin and a good few bottles of Tequila! They do an orange one and a coal one. Really into Tequila now!

  9. You need to get down the gym a bit or stop moaning lol :p:p:scream::scream:;) If you had carried on from said coffee shop its down hill from there , I sure one of the helpful staff would have helped your delicate frame back up the hill , its all in the customer care you know o_O

  10. Hello PerryL I hope you are in good health. Have you considered a Suzuki GSX-8R? 450lbs in weight and comfy seat. Not for me as I'm 5ft 9, it felt too tall. In line twin not V-twin, similar sound though. MCN love it.

  12. These days, it's only a matter of time! That's why I am obsessed with weight! It has to be light enough for me to pick up from lying on it's side!!!

  13. The weight is because of all the tech on it.
The only light bikes are sub 700cc.

  14. 250 off roader then.

Incedently, why didn’t you just get a cab down to your local Ducati ? Got to be better than sitting in M&S with a load of screaming babies.

  15. One tequila, two tequila, three tequila -floor!

Really good tequila hmm... Try Don Julio Reposado. About £45 a bottle. Unless you pay a lot more, you won't get anything better.

  16. To try and do more walking. That was the point. When home, I have to drive or ride to Riders of Bristol or Bridgewater anyway as Riders are my nearest Ducati dealer.

M & S was ok. I don't think that I have been in one for over ten years!

  17. No, I haven't but interesting shout. I'll do some research. Fowlers, where I have bought my KTMs from do Suzuki and I think Fraser do as well and that's just up the A38 from me.

Back home now and I will post pictures when I sort out a computer. I stopped off at the Piston Gin Distillery on the way, The guy that owns the distillery is really into cars and bikes. In the shop cum bar, there's a bit of Morgan frame hanging up. There is old bikes there as well. Looks like he's into BMWs! I bought some bottles of Tequila, as they sell that as well. I like the Tequila that they do, I'll go back to stay in Worcester next year. I can take the train to Worcester and have done but the disadvantage over taking my own transport is that I can't buy so much gin!

  18. Does it better with age . A serious question as I have a never opened bottle of Don Julio I brought back from Ensenada in about 2006!

  19. No idea. It definitely will not age with me. I bought four bottles of Tequila and two of a flavoured mixer. Already on it now,

I am supposed to have aCarter Allen account with my compo in. I tried to register and it wanted to confirm something by ringing my mobile with a code. It wasn't my mobile, or even a UK one. Looks like they cut out the middle man and went straight to that Nigerian cousin that I never knew I had. I am very unimpressed.

  20. The number that Cater Allen are trying to call is a New Delhi one. I've lost trust in this bunch of shysters. There was supposed to be hundreds of thousands in this Carter Allen account but now my expectations of having anything left are zero.

All this talk of keeping enough money back to move or live on a cruise ship are down the toilet. I never thought that it looked right when the only object of the exercise was to make sure that I never got the money. All the time, it was a long lost relation in New Delhi. Oh well, live and learn!
