Hi there Just jumping on to your post as I would be very interested in how you progress in getting your 748 back up running. I have just decided to get my 748e back on the road from a 10 year lay off hidden at the back of the garage . Time to throw off its cover and get started . My first plan is taking the tank off and dealing with any fuel contamination and go from there
It used to be an argument for running Esso Super Unleaded (Supreme 99+) as up to September 2023 it had no ethanol at all in the Midlands & the South East, but I'm sure running Super Unleaded has got to be better at 5% ethanol than normal fuel at 10%. From the reports I've read, it doesn't in effect cost any more as you seem to get better mpg out of it, so I'd say there is nothing to lose.
Personally, I've always used Super Unleaded if I can, but that dates back to quite some years ago when I took it over to Brittany, and was seriously worried about making it back to the ferry-port, it was running so rough. But as soon as I landed in Portsmouth and filled up, it was fine. And later I was advised to use Super in France. I'm not sure what the make-up of petrol was back then, but I've always used SU since purely because I thought it had less ethanol. I wouldn't claim fuel consumption is any better, but then again I don't do many long trips these days, so judging fuel consumption is iffy. Last time I did a half-decent run, a couple of weeks back, fuel consumption seemed to be the same old 10 miles a litre I generally reckon. The pix upthread in this thread were kinda scary, and I must say, the last time I shone a torch inside my tank, it all looked clean as a whistle in there.
