V4 Rear Brake Pulse, Should I Be Concerned?

  1. My 2024 Multi Rally V4 with about 11.5k on the clock has developed a pulsing on the rear brake on light to medium application but not on hard application.

    Should I be concerned?

  2. Probably teaching to suck eggs, but have you checked disc isn't warped, pistons stuck, pads sticking on carrier (clean and copper grease), is fluid ok

  3. Mmmm...yah, that was going to be an action as a matter of course as I need to replace the rear tyre so pads & fluid will be replaced and her ass end is going to get a good scrubbing; then I'll clean the bike, BOOM BOOM!

How does one go about checking for a warped disc? Is the variance from true difficult to detect without specialist kit?

Anyhoo, cheers for the input, much appreciated.

  4. If it's a severe problem, you can carefully study the surface of the disc and you will be able to see that it alternates between two "textures" as you revolve it, and sometimes even two colours! I don't have to tell you, that if you put it on a paddock stand of sorts, you can revolve the wheel and carefully check, and even with some clever Heath ROBINSON stuff, you might be able to offer up a scriber/biro etc on a tripod et cetera the crude version of a DTI :) if you did find some alternating blemishes on the disc, you will be able to see how they coincide with the "wobble"/distortion.

  5. Funnily enough, I just changed my rear disc on my 999 this morning. I had exactly the same pulsing feeling, and you can see where the pad is not contacting the disc. It is dull at 1 o'clock till 6 o'clock and from 9 till 11 too.

When I put it on the flat glass induction hob in the kitchen you could feel the wobble, but admittedly it was remarkably slight, I expected a giant rocking.

  6. the colour of that disk suggests it's been overheating

  7. Aye, good point...I'll have a fiddle with the piston too. :upyeah:

  8. Yah! I see now. Funnily enough I have a wheel balancing rig with attached trueing arm; thanks for reminding me!
The "lying it on flat glass" is a good idea as well...

  9. I had another look at the disc this afternoon, the colour is actually sky reflection in the photo. :upyeah:
