998 Alternator Socket Replacement

  1. My alternator (female) socket is in need of replacement, as is the other (male) plug that goes in it. Picture of the female version sourced online follows below.

Has anyone sourced a pair recently or can guide me to a link that could help?

  2. I think I’d cut both off and use some good quality bullet connectors.

  3. No brainer for little over a fiver.
Might even ditch my "choc block" connector which has worked faultlessly for the last 8 years.

  4. It's a design fault I believe, cabling and plug close to heat from horizontal cylinder. I rerouted mine, spade connectors, self amalgamating tape and heat resistant sleeving. Not pretty but works. Depends on how original you want to be?

  5. I would look for a better quality connector with more than adequate current capacity and, importantly, weather protection. It's oxidation of the terminals that leads to increased resistance and subsequent heat.
Something like these which will also fit a Shindengen regulator.

  6. Yes quality connectors Derek. Better than the poo originals.

  7. I also use dielectric grease on all connectors. It’s horrible stuff but it keeps the weather out.

  8. This has me thinking whether it's time to go for the Shindengen regulator mod entirely. I believe I read somewhere that Triumph's factory Shindengen set up has the same connectors as those used by Ducati on the factory wiring loom (so no need to change them with that kit).

  9. Is that a MOSFET ?

  10. Yes, that would be Mosfet (my bad in using the premium brand name rather than the type)

  11. That's ok Nick_996. It is a better option than diodes.

  12. A common mod is the mosfet unit plus the triumph loom bit you can get off Amazon/ebay etc.
