RIP Ricky Hatton. Very sad, but not altogether surprising news given the way he struggled with his mental health: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/boxing/articles/cjr57zx74v0o
Ha-ha-ha - what a round. The guy who lost, even with all that holding, should have put him away when he had multiple chances. Ref wasn't the best mind.
Ha, true. The lad was in la la land after the 1st knockdown. The black lad would have undoubtedly put him away with a tad more composure… Said I from my armchair
Just bought Wardley v. Parker tickets for me and the eldest boy at the Millennium Dome this Saturday. 40 fucking quid in booking, transaction and facility (whatever the fuck that is) fees is taking the fucking piss though. As is the fact that O2 don't email the tickets like most other civilised organisations, but you need to download and install their app. Oh, and the tickets went up by £55 each between me checking availability this afternoon and #1 son replying to my text about which seats to get about an hour ago. Doubtless, there will be an algorithm which has been crafted as a result of analysing data patterns which stings people who check and then come back again later for a bit more money. Pagans.
Much as I feel your pain, the biggest piss take ever by the O2 (in fairness, it may have been Ticketmaster) has to be the £4.95 postage they charged me for the Bon Jovi opening night concert, for the simple reason that I bought them on the day of the concert and the peasants told me to collect them at the box office! Sorry sir, it's an automated charge, nothing we can do about it... Yeah, right. And don't even think about buying a beer there unless you've taken out a mortgage in advance.
Annoying but enjoy the show! Should be a good one. Wardley is one tough cookie… mind you, so’s Parker. Can’t call it tbh…
Yep. We saw Wardley in action during the absolutely epic slugfest Wardley v. Clarke (1), also at the O2, which ended in a draw. The rematch was a completely different affair which left Clarke slumped unconscious in the corner with a broken jaw inside 90 seconds. Hopefully this one will last a bit longer! As an aside, it's crazy that he came up via white collar boxing.
I reckon the Cartel must have had a few pesos on that and were holding the ref's kids hostage, as he should have stopped it. Fair play to the guy though, as that was some comeback.
The late mother-in-law had a favourite expression when confronted with a ludicrous price for a cauliflower or some such - "I wouldn't encourage 'em." Perhaps not the best analogy but you get the idea... they charge what they can get away with... I've always liked Parker and now he's bulked up he's able to mix with physically big opponents. This doesn't seem to have affected his speed & movement to which he has added power & front foot aggression. He's a shrewd experienced fighter with good ring craft and I think he'll prove too much for Wardley.
Oh wow!!! shows you what I know... Sport - don'tcha just love it. Edit* - although I've just read some comments and quite a few thought it was stopped too early.
Fabio Wardley, take a bow. You rock hard bar steward!! His toughness reminds me of Hagler! Not stopped too early imo. Parker was understandably knackered. Great scrap…
That was awesome! I wish we'd put money on it as my boy predicted Wardley would stop him between rounds 9 and 12. We also thought it was a bit of an early stoppage, especially for a fight with so much on the line. The ref also stopped one of the undercard bouts pretty early too, although in that case the announcer later said something about the corner retiring their fighter. However, no towel came into the ring, although one of the corner men was standing on the apron with a towel in his hand and (IIRC) there is actually no rule which requires the towel to actually be thrown in, nor is the ref required to stop a fight if one is. In either case, the ref can see the fighter's eyes while we can't and it's him who has the guy's life in his hands. He won that fight, as he's won many of them, mostly on heart, but unfortunately that's not going to be anywhere near enough to deal with Usyk's bag of tricks, but imagine what a fairytale it would be if he landed a lucky punch and ended up undisputed heavyweight champion of the world! He didn't even take up boxing until he was 21 and only did so because he hadn't made it as a footballer and needed something to do in order to keep fit. He says he'd never even had a fight in his entire life before he had his first white collar bout.
One thing I noticed last night and in Wardley’s earlier fights against Adeyele and Huni is that he gets caught with the left hook an awful lot as he keeps his right hand low and cocked ready to throw. Edit: I just noticed that it looks as if there's some sort of filter on that pic. I promise we were not wearing make up.
