Last seen at Donny/rossi days when starkeys bridge was still there at the bottom of craners, and you even had Brit wildcards, no chance now. And ultimately that’s why they want Malaysian and American riders along with the inordinate amount of Spanish and Italian riders these days. Jake Dixon as lovely as he is doesn’t put bums on seats.
True enough, I used to watch at Donington as well and it was always packed. Been about 4 times to Silverstone but never again, from a spectator point of view it's awful and the organisers just aren't interested (less food/drink/merch tents around the stands every year and most of the stands closed) and no atmosphere whereas WSBK at Donington is far more popular and a great weekend of entertainment throughout.
I was into wsb before gp and then when the likes of edwards bayliss etc started switching I was hooked. Always had at the very least two Brit riders on the grid back then albeit in terrible teams. I remember watching Leon haslam on a 500 Honda round there and I don’t even consider myself *that old haha. Total case of careful what you wish for remember everyone moaned about Donny cos the toilets/“facilities” were shit which they undoubtedly were but that’s an easy fix. 50 thousand people camped out on craners every day of the race weekend you can’t replicate.
I miss Steve parish and Charlie cox on comms too along with jules Ryder and I don’t care what anyone says Keef Huewen >>>>>>>>>> Gav if you have to have some idiot gasping utter nonsense the whole way through am entire race. At least make me laugh while you’re doing it etc…
A rumour circulating during the summer had JP committing £25 million to get Donington Park up to FIM Grade A status, part of which had the pit lane exit moving round to Hollywood Looking at it realistically, investment in the track is only a part of the problem, the infrastructure around Donington Park needs a truly huge investment to deal with getting teams and spectators into and out of the track. Even with the small numbers associated with BSB, it’s chaos. No small feat and with less than 2 years to deliver a major infrastructure project, not IMO a chance for 2027. I’m seriously beginning to doubt a UK round of MotoGP will be on the calendar. Andy
I wholeheartedly agree... When it was on the beeb I used to get it on sat over here in Scandalnavia but since then I've had to watch on motogp.com, and (apart from Crafar until last year) the idiots there (matt, louis & jack) should be taken outside, hung by their balls and castrated slowly with a blunt spoon. Bunch of idiots & matt can't even speak properly... Ohhhh, it makes me angry....!
In general agreement with the sentiment, if a little harsh The motogp.com crowd are a bit shit, like you say Crafar was great (it did take him a season to get into the swing of it though..) with some excellent insights to the tech side of things. Sort of pleased Marquez is out, though I wish him a speedy recovery. BUT even the race after the coming together with Bez, feking name checked 5 times before lap one was finished. Yes, I was counting. Its like they are sat there with the kleenex, obsessed over MMs every move. I cant be the only one who has noticed the improved racing and coverage after that race! Though the commentary is still lame. Also, the choice of camera footage, at times at a loss to know why they are focussing on the least interesting part of the race. Mid season I was thinking not to renew my subscription tbh. Got really fed up with them. Will see what happens with new bikes and testing. Early this year was a bit of a snoozefest. If the ‘other’ manufacturers can continue to close the gap…maybe..
Was the closest I have been for a while in the first half of the marquez bros show season, have been on and off with it the last few years but don't really have any other option here and I'd rather have the option of watching it whilst screaming abuse at the commentators than not watching it at all... but god they are useless. Motogp needs to pull out a finger and get some folks that know what they're talking about without gargling 93's balls...
Further to motogp.com I hate logging on after a race, ready to watch the recording when not able to watch live, to be confronted with results. Ffs. How difficult would it be to NOT have the results as the first thing you see? I have done customer feedback, alluding to this, and also to actually seeing the important part of a race. Strange choices at times for which camera to choose. The number of times they are too busy doing a replay, and miss an important overtake, hopeless too. As to the racing: Two top riders out with injury, many others injured at various times this year. The machines…or the fact that the Sprint races now take their toll? I admit I thought they were a bad idea, but now enjoy them. But extra injuries and qualifying is now so important.. Tyre pressure rule. Come on, it needs sorting. Measure pressure from tpms at start of grid to a central control? There must be a better way than what they have now.
The sprint races are largely dog shit. I cant even work out who theyre even for anymore cos they certainly dont seem to put any extra bums on seats, which was the intention in the first place. Whether or not it causes more injuries i wouldnt be surprised but it just ruins the whole weekend cos you get less of everything else, when some of us actually enjoy moto2 and 3 and dare i say actually a bit more than the main class more often than not. Only going to get worse with Liberty though especially if they get the go ahead to de classify the support classes as planned.
How much do you pay for MGP.com? Disovery plus is £30ish PM and you get WSB & BSB, as well as lots of other channels.
They used to have a no-spoiler landing page but that was changed a while back to to /videopass that takes you straight to the video page without seeing any results: https://www.motogp.com/en/videopass
TNT pisses all over sky sports for variety and coverage, it’s only because Virgin told me my bill would go UP if I cancelled Sky I’ve kept it. More madness.
I binned Sky after 26 years in July. Don’t miss it at all. Got a FreeSat box and I have the D+ app on my Firestick. TNT has had a couple of blips with ‘catch up’ programmes (I think you and exchanged posts on it?). And I’ve found lately if I use the ‘Resume’ button it restarts the programme so I have to note the time when I paused left it. Other than that it’s a good interface.
