  1. I’ve changed mine to high efficiency, so we will see.

    Thanks @Ducbird

  2. The proprietary Apple HEIC format isn't a recognised web image format. Unless the forum has the capability to convert this to a JPEG on upload then you will find that wont work.

Are there other iPhone users saving in HEIC and successfully uploading images here?

  3. If HEIC is High Efficiency, then I am using that, and have been for 5 years. I've posted a fair few pics here too.

  6. Maybe the forum software converts them to JPEG then. Have encountered issues with uploading this format and it not working before on other websites/forums. The advice generally was to convert the HEIC images to JPEG prior to uploading, not exactly a convenient or intuitive solution. Google search...

EDIT: Apparently Apple have now found a way around this, maybe detecting an upload it converts the image... who knows.

  7. I have absolutely no idea why or how it works, but in my personal case it does -and very well too. Credit to Apple & the forum in equal parts!

  8. Todays photo upload failed yet again, changed another setting.

  9. My photos are all in the native Apple HEIF format. When I upload anything I just select the image from my photo library, then click the small slider symbol bottom right.
    IMG_2939.png

    which brings up this screen,
    IMG_2940.png

which permits me to ensure geo data is not being shared and also adjust the file size. Each time you select a size it will tell you the estimated file size.

Then click Add and they transfer to the forum.

Dont forget they have to be inserted as a full image into the post or else they will appear as thumbnails by default.

  10. Wow! Your iphone is very different to mine.

I select the pic directly from the upload a file.
I chose fullsize on the form dialog box

    Then "Post Reply".

  11. I note from the text at the bottom of the last screen-grab that there's a conversion process on the iPhone when uploading that changes the format from native to JPEG. This used to be a far more manual process that users needed to be instructed to use. Interesting as one of the websites I developed for a client has an image upload feature and this issue has been something of a problem for users with iPhones. Will look into which iOS version this was introduced on.

  12. I’ve always had iPhones ever since the iPhone 5 and can’t recall ever having to go through any conversion process when uploading a photo to here.

  13. iPhone 16 running iOS 18.7.1

    The reasons I select Large rather than Full Size are;

    a) there used to be file size limit here, was 2Mb then changed to 4Mb iirc but maybe there’s no limit these days, and,

    b) I find that in the Large size rather than Full Size the image size comes out about 0.5Mb which is plenty big enough to be viewed on a mobile device (I guess that’s how the majority access forums) and loads quickly thus not presenting the viewer with an interminable wait, when reception is bad, for images to download.

  14. We're you using HEIC then? ISTR that it used to be an option, as it now is on Samsung phones. Not that I've ever owned an iPhone though I have daughters that do.

  15. I don’t know . It would have been whatever the default option was at the time, I don’t recall changing anything.
