Been riding my 2020 scrambler 800 Icon more and more, finding the front forks harsh more and more !. I've read as much as I can find, adverts for replacement fork springs are for pairs, but I read there is only one spring - in the right leg. So I just opened up the easy to get to left leg - no spacer no spring. Obviously the rate of one spring is around double of each of the pairs. so what rate is the single spring ?, can't find a positive answer anywhere. Regards all.....
I have no idea. I fitted an Andreani cartridge conversion which has a spring in each leg with full adjustment got preload compression and rebound damping.
I have an Icon 800 NG (2024) and did a lot of research with my dealer and on the internet, looking at alternatives. I found my choices were limited. There is no replacement spring from Ducati for the OE fitment and I could find nothing on the Kayaba website. Aftermarket cartridge kits are available from Andreani, Nitron, Maxton and (my choice) Ktech. I have the Ktech Tracker cartridge kit with 6N springs which you have to buy separately. I also fitted an Öhlins rear shock. I'm still fine tuning but it is a big step forward. Andy
The Ohlins front fork kit, Ohlins rear shock and Sargent seat combo have been in place for a few years now, Cornerspeed serviced the front forks this year which made them better than ever and overall it's a good set up, the K-tech set up I have heard is the best of the lot but have never tried that. My 10th year with the little Scrambler this year, and I think you're the same @Derek? Speaks volumes about these bikes, they are lovely little friends.
Yes, 10 years past May. It's been a great wee bike. Just as happy riding up the Angus glens as it was for the NC500. Not the fastest bike but more than enough for me, easily capable of exceeding 100mph if I needed to. I had the Termi exhaust and upmap installed from new and dropped the rear sprocket to a 44t. Together these make for a much nicer bike.
Good to see long term ownership. I think you could say it was a smart move by Ducati to go down this line. Have not rode one myself, but did take a look at a couple of used in the dealership, and noticed bits of paint missing off the engine. Is this a common fault or poor maintenance.
The only paint issue I've had on mine is with the satin black on the horizontal cylinder head bearing housing where it was flaking away the forward edge. Not surprising since it gets all the road shit thrown at it. Very easily rectified though, as it is only held on by two screws, for a respray with an etching primer undercoat.
Thanks. The only reason I asked was because the paint was missing in the same p!ace on both bikes. Other than that they were very good. Not sure either had many miles clocked up.
