Early Monster 1993 - 2001 exhausts are listed on eBay as one fits all ie 900 - 750 - 800 - 695 - 600 - 620 and even S4 but I had a feeling the header pipes on all models were slightly different. The diameter was the same just the angle to the footrest hanger was wrong. Any ideas ?
Unfortunately none provide the original part number, just say fit all models up to 2003 which I don’t think is correct. I thought 1993 upto 1999 or 900/750/600/400 only.
I know for sure the 900 Monster headers are different to the 600 and 750. It's more fundamental than the footrest hanger mounts as the cylinders/heads are different sizes. And that 1000 Monster headers do not fit the 900. Also that Monster and ST headers are different because the ST silencers have longer sections of pipe that bend in at the end to meet the headers which have much shorter sections of pipe attached. The other wrong information on adverts is that early Monster and SS headers are the same, suggesting for example that M900 and 900SS headers are the same. They are not.
I’m looking for some period Termi’s for my 94 Monster, loads listed on eBay but cautious of the ‘fits all models’ description. The shape of the early Termis seems different to later examples also.
900 engines have a longer stroke than 400/600/750 and so the cylinders are a little longer meaning the pipes are also longer. Monster Vs. SS are different despite having the same engine, I assume because the swingarm is different and the rear pipe threads through it, the front pipe may be the same setup? AFAIK, all models have the same 40mm diameter pipes though so silencers etc. may well be compatible across the range but check regarding the mounting brackets. S4 are totally different.
