multistrada pikes peak 2025 fitting evotech engine and radiator guards. the middle guard fits to a bracket where you remove a couple of the exhaust nuts and slide the bracket over and then refit the nuts. instructions say tighten to 10nm. unfortunately i had knocked my torque wrench into 12 nm and when i tightened one of them it snapped off. question is will this be ok to run with just 2 uts on one of the down pipes or is it an easy fix or is it a mega cost dealer hob?
If it snapped flush to the head - tricky. If there's some stud protruding - less tricky. Sounds like a poor design to pick up on exhaust studs.
I might have done the same when I had my 1260 when trying to undo them, it ran fine on 2. The studs are a bit shit.
I doubt that Ducati ever designed the exhaust studs to act as an attachment point for a bracket to hold a radiator guard.
A bit late now, but for anyone else reading. I bought the DBKSpecialParts rad guard. One piece, covers all 3 rads, a variety of colours, attached via the bolts for the fog lights on either side and literally take just 10 mins to fit.
am i right in thinking if there’s some of the nut protruding and i can get it , that it will unscrew? and also i can get a replacement from ducati ?
Yes. If some of the stud protruding then get a pair of mole grips on it and wind it out. If you can’t then I’d take it to an independent motorcycle shop who will be a lot cheaper than Ducati to sort it
Had evotec on my last multi . Good quality: a bit fiddly to fit. Wasn't going to bother with to fit a guard on the new multi: but AliEpress are selling a Evotec copy for £26. I will post once fitted how good or bad it is
I feel your pain. Tbf this is why I bottled fitting my Evotech engine guard to my 950s Multi. It also takes 1 mount of 3 with a bracket from an exhaust stud. I cleaned the area, looked at the then 3 1/2 year old studs and size, nope not risking it. The dealer said it would be ok without the bracket but since really cleaning up the pipe it kinda matches the glossy Grey paint lol. So if anyone fancies it I can sell at a reasonable price? Kindest Regards Richard
so i’ve actually broken two but the good news is there’s plenty protruding, i’ve ordered some mole grips, it will it need heating up to get them out? will they be stuck pretty fast ?
Because the bike is pretty new you should be ok. If you feel resistance get some heat on the stud until it nearly glows red. Then walk away. DO NOT try to remove a heated stud. Let it cool right down then try again. Patience is your friend
As said, the exhaust manifold will have to come off but as the bike is brand new they’ll come out easy enough. You may be lucky and have just enough thread, once the manifold is off, to get 2 nuts on there. Put one nut on as far as it will go. Put the 2nd nut on and tighten it up as tight as you can (don’t strip the thread) against the first. Now undo the first nut. It can’t undo in the traditional sense due to the 2nd nut so it will start to turn the stud itself and back that out of the cylinder head. If the 2nd nut, the locknut, starts to turn too just hold it with a spanner until it tightens further against the first nut and the entire stud begins to turn.
well rang first dealer and he couldn’t find the studs on his parts fiche, in fact couldn’t be arsed so sent me a picture and said i had to tell him which it i needed, range carlisle and he knew the crack, parts ordered and bend sent out to me when they arrive.
I have fitted the radiator and oil guards from AliExpress. The packaging arrived with all the fittings, except the rubber grommets that you get with evotec. A foam strip was supplied, which was not needed as once fitted, none of the three guards touch the radiator fins. I was following the evotec instructions (as there are no instructions included). However you cant get an allan key access when attaching the radiator guards to the oil cooler guard. So I had to join the guards before presenting them to the radiators. The whole thing slipped in easily. I did not have to take the side panel off. Once fitted, it looks the same as evotec's . The spaces to stop debris going through are similar to evotec. Obviously it will not be the same quality an the evotec; but it looks the same and will do the same job for £26
so spoke to carlisle ducati and they are going to pick my bike up and sort it. i bought a proper stud extractor but could get that to grip sufficiently and didn’t want to cause more damage. even with 1cm of stud protruding i couldn’t get it to grip. decided not to cause any more damage and just suck up the bill to get it fixed
