I have been asked to submit blood pressure readings twice a day for 7 days. 5 days in and I am going from readings in the morning that scream "dial 999 immediately" to readings in the evening that are saying "you must be an Olympic athlete" I enjoy a few fags and a glass of whisky but cannot make head nor tale of my readings.
I have to do this too. Do it as early in the day as possible. Sit upright in a chair without crossing arms, legs etc, relax. You should then get more consistent readings. Do not exert yourself, take a hot bath before, either. And ensure you’ve already had any BP meds an hour before, with food. Bon chance.
I use a band which takes my blood pressure every couple of hours. Gets calibrated every couple of weeks with a cuff measuring thing
And keep well away from insurance companies would be my advice! Mine probably goes off the scale dealing with these costs. They should come with a government health warning!
My GP’s cardiovascular team who monitor my blood pressure on a regular basis, have advised that the first reading tends to be atypical so take a second after 5 minutes and if still high, take a third. Many over the counter blood pressure machines, especially the medical apps that use a small band, are at best for guidance only. Andy
I was asked while I was waiting in the chemists to collect a prescription for my mother if I’d like to take a blood pressure reading. The lady took a reading from my right arm first and didn’t look too pleased with the results so she then took one from my left arm and was very happy with that reading, saying she will pass it on to my doctor! All a bit strange, think I’ll use the other chemist in future.
i cant think of a single reason why one arm might be um... hmm. leave it for the workshop fin. maybe yer just not a morning person nifty
Good point. I always take two blood pressure & pulse readings. And if either is inconsistent or anomalous, a third. Whenever I have a doctor's appointment, I show them my record sheet for information.
