1200 DVT Obdstar Cam Timing

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by glenandem, Dec 2, 2025.

  1. hi guys gonna swap my belts out soon on my 2016 1200 dvt and wondering if anyone who uses the obdstar knows which parameter I use in the menu to check the cam timing before and after?
havent had chance to have a good play with it yet!

  2. You could just mark the belts and pulleys or buy the cam locking tool

  3. cheers bud will be doing that too for sure but want to check it running before and after on what the cam timing is doing☺️

  4. If you haven’t already research dvt belt change .. timing marks etc are different to a conventional Desmo…

  5. yeah all looks easily enough to do after watching a few vids, just wanna double check cam timing on obdstar before and after for extra peace of mind, will have to plug in when I get 5 and go through the parameters if no one can help on here☺️

  6. I've not done the live data stream stuff using my OBDStar but I'm aware that it can do it, though to what degree and if that includes cam timing data or not I have no idea. The Bosch EMU shows "Read Data Stream" in the OBDStar capability spreadsheet but offers no real further information.

Guess it'll be a case of hooking it up and having a look to see if there's anything relevant.

Google AI, not exactly a reliable source of information, returned the following for the search term Ducati ENG bosch "read data stream" "cam timing":

Good luck and report your finding back here.

  7. thanks mate, I certainly will next time im playing with the bike, that obdstar is a good little bit of kit when I briefly reset the service warning on it the other week so hopefully it should have live data for the cam timing!

  8. somewhere there is a video on you tube of a guy doing exactly what you want to to check the dvt timing he goes through the belt change too

  10. mega that thanks buddy I actually watch alot of his videos, he's so manically depressive at times but funny and worth a watch, just watched his vid on the dvt, looks even easier than I expected to do the belts!

  11. Managed to spend 10 mins with the bike today, found this but I don’t know what the range is so need to find out that but it’s reading it anyway!

  12. Sorted, found the timing range, for anyone interested in the future and wanting to know here’s a post I copied and pasted!
if you have a diagnostic unit- you can verify timing on the computer too. The DVT motors have both crank position sensors, and cam position sensors. There is a parameter that is "camshaft position in relations to crankshaft" and it is in "degrees KW". At idle, once off fast idle at cold start, the intake cams will be at 105 +/-5 degrees kw, and exhaust at 75 +/- degrees kw. If it's not in that range, it's not timed. Do not rev it up or test the OCV (oil control valves for the cam advance) or you will bend a valve.
