Just read John W. Campbell's 'Who Goes There?' It's a novella, so disappointing in being over too soon. Maybe an unconscious cue that I think it's an astounding piece of science fiction for 1938, and he was the editor of Astounding Science Fiction. Very loosely adapted as The Thing from Another World and more accurately as The Thing. I've seen the first too often and can't really suspend disbelief for the latter on account of Kurt Russell (hence my post to 'Who do you hate?') Anyway the book is better than either film.
