@DucatiScud I only skim read the page and at first I thought you were replying to @xh558’s post about his beef hula hoop
Another visit to the fracture clinic today, not good news, need an operation to remove the fragments, and do a partial elbow replacement On the way home, called in to my local bike dealer and candelled the order for the bike i should have picked up in March By all accounts, I won't be able to ride for a while, will be another 8 weeks minimum before any potential return to work, I have been told that I will not regain full movement of my elbow again
Ah, bollocks. I broke and dislocated my elbow playing American Football when I was 19 and it was the most painful injury I have ever suffered. I really did a proper job of it as both ends of the humerus (like the two sides of a hammer) broke off and the ulna and radius also split apart at the point where they fuse, then twisted and crossed over one another. As a result the lower part of my right arm sticks out at a strange angle, which in turn, totally screwed my bowling action and spiked any ideas of potentially taking the promise I was showing as a cricketer any further. Then, a few years later I broke my other arm (again, playing American Football) and the orthopaedic surgeon who examined it also spotted my right arm, asked me some questions about the injury and told me to stop playing contact sports immediately because if I broke it again, they'd probably need to fuse the joint at 45 degrees. So, that was the end of me dressing up in shoulder pads. Didn't stop me riding bikes though! Will it put the kibosh on you riding altogether or just the bike you had ordered? What bike was it?
3 weeks ago, tripped over some rebar sticking out of the ground on a site i was delivering to, multiple fractures of my left elbow
Unsure at the moment if it will stop me altogether, but, i think sports bikes will be out for quite a while The bike I should have been collecting was a Kawasaki Versys 1100, more upright style of bike, Kawasaki version of the Multistrada, reason for cancelling is, it would be parked up for quite a while, but still making monthly payments, I have decided that it was better to cancel it, get a refund on my deposit, as I will be around 11 weeks on SSP
Sorry to hear that. Physio is the cure, stick at it once you are able and you’ll be right before you know it.
After the operation (hopefully tomorrow), it will be 4 weeks in a sling, then 4 weeks physio, minimum, i will never get full movement back in my elbow or wrist, regardless of whether I have the op or not, the consultant said that I should get more movement than I currently have if I have the op The bikes will just be stored away for now, the versys 650 that I have is already listed for sale, I will not be selling the K5 or the 916, the others may get sold if I can't ride them
Went out for a pre theatre meal. If you are up in town and want something to eat I’d recommend the Crown Cafe on The Strand, by Aldwych and Wellington Street. Two of those and two drinks for a hair under £20 which in central London is very good. Now at the Fortune Theatre for Operation Mincemeat: The Musical. Unfortunately my seat had bugger all legroom so I’ve been forced to put up with a box for the evening.
Goodluck tomorrow. The docs always say you won't get the movement back. In my case on multiple bad breaks they were wrong. So do the physio and you'll probably be great! I must say this does seem like a huge effort just to get out of washing up on Christmas Day though...
The Physio is key, make sure you have a good one and do exactly what they advise. It's all too easy to skip the daily home exercises, but they make all the difference. I'd ask what their advised maximum is...then do exactly that. I recovered near 100% arm movement after 4 months of physio, could barely lift my arm 30cm at the beginning. Good luck
Currently doing an online cyber security course; I’m currently being warned of the dangers of over reliance on AI, whilst trying not to laugh at the irony that the narration on all of our training courses is AI generated.
I hate leaving any of my cars parked in a public place, as people just don't respect other peoples property. As for old drivers, the other day I was at a set of traffic lights, behind me was an old bloke in a VW Tiguan, and on the left, an old girl in a Honda Jazz. When the lights changed, the Jazz scraped down the side of the VW, but neither driver noticed, and they both drove off in different directions. I was dumbfounded at how neither of them had a clue, and even more worried that one of those fuckers might try parking next to me one day.
When the Icelandic volcano Eyjafjallajökull blew its top back in 2010 rather than cancelling our southern Spanish trip we decided to drive. On route we stayed in a small town south of Madrid leaving my then cherished Alfa 159 sportwagon parked outside the hotel. That night someone crashed into the front wing and wheel damaging both. Luckily the tyre didn’t deflate so we were able to carry on with the holiday unhindered The repair bill was well over a grand. Shit happens.
