  5. Hope no one was seriously harmed. A great photo to demonstrate why regular boiler pressure tests are important.

  11. Its a strange failure, the longitudinal seam is normally the weakest. I dread to think how the engines were used back in the day. Familiarity breeds contempt.

  13. It’ll be the shortest day soon enough and then it’ll soon be Summer again.
Especially as times seems to run faster as you get to OAP figures.

  16. Yeah, its only another 120 days or so. Many of which will be super cold, dark, windy with an abundance of wet and frozen water a probability. But at least we aren't in Canada!

  17. I'd prefer the deep cold and snow of Canada, especially if I have a snowmobile or a snowbike and the possibility of skiing/snowboarding appeals.

Need my Son to hurry up and get his qualifications and move to Japan to allow me to visit him for the Winter...........

  18. Its OK for a while. But if you're not on the hill, and living next to the hill, its a drag. Minus 20 or more for weeks is worse.

One morning I arrived in Calgary airport and walked out into an erie white gloom. It was overcast and windless. All the buildings looked like they were pumping out steam which was just heat loss coming out in clouds. Hardly anyone was on the streets, and the roads were like glass. All vehicles were either running or plugged into heater circuits in every car park.

In January/ February its often mandatory to wear face masks on the slopes in Alberta because it's so cold. No just because of the frostbite. The ice is so hard that if you fall it cuts your soft skin.

I'm past all that sh*te now...

  19. When my Son was out in the resort in Japan when it snowed hard their landlord was on a forever war with the snow. He'd be clearing snow near constantly.

I recall a photo of their company car buried in snow, often it would be a half hour task to dig it out. Then after a day of work with the snowmobiles etc they were required to remove all the snow from the machines before putting them away.

I know he got sick of the snow as when we cycled up through Japan he flipped out when we were riding above the snow line late April.

Still prefer Japan's Winter to damp old blighty though.
