  2. I picked up on fb a lovely large record vise (sad git eh!) on Monday last, lovely person selling it, it was her fathers she could not have been more helpful. I guess it’s the usual thing, most people are decent it’s the a*rseholes that spoil it - despite being in the minority that have a big impact.

  4. Doesn't it also niggle a bit when you realise that the quality tools you inherited from your father and cherished your whole life are going to also outlive you!!

  6. +1 to the Record vice, I've got 3 of different sizes in my workshop all definitely vintage.

One of them I 'found' under a pile of junk (35 years ago) in the barn that became our house, no idea how long it had been there but a bit of a wire brush to remove the surface rust and it works fine. The only replacement parts I've ever needed for any of them are a few of the screws that hold the jaws in.

As for old tools, I inherited some from my Dad and some of them were inherited from his Dad. I've got a wooden tool cabinet that my Grandad made, full of engineering/measuring tools with his initials stamped on them, most of which I still use occasionally.

I've got a few socket sets but my main (Kamasa) 1/2" drive set was my Dad's and must be at least 50 years old and still going strong.

I've definitely got more tools than it is healthy to have, the only problem is that despite having 4 Sons, none of them are likely to want any when I'm gone so there'll likely be a garage sale/scrap weigh-in, come the day.
