(small) Bike Things You've Done Today

  2. Anything nice ? I think they do lowered versions - like Ducati and others make lowering kits for their bikes.
     
  3. It was a 2021 F900XR . It was tall , but manageable. More suitable for euro road trips than my 765 street triple, we will have to see . Definitely need a test ride

  4. not sure if this counts, because it's a small bike thing i didn't do - a "squeakily" low-mileage Ugly Strada was up for sale for a while, and the seller even replied with an offer but i took my eye off the ball and of course it's gone now (today) Never mind..

  6. that's great news Paul, I'm beating myself up quite hard on this multi Strada, as it was a sensible thing to do "going forward "with the state of health et cetera, but that's life.

    Funnily enough i came across another 900 by chance a few weeks ago that I'm sure I might have got with the information I was told but its now gone,
     
  8. Finally got round to fitting the Exact start cable kit on to the Mts 1260.. had a mild panic when it wouldn't start on test firing, cue check fuses, some muffled swearing, connection wiggling etc.. yep in gear with the side stand sticking out.
    Laughed about it through relief more than actual hilarity but all good, kicks up lovely now.
    Also after a chat with Sam1199 had a fiddle with the preload on the right hand fork and as expected there wasn't any.. half a turn from the factory. So dialled in some for my weight 1 turn per 15kg minus half a turn..
    Oh and fitted the Speedo Angels Nano glass as recommended by some good souls on this forum.
    Productive session all round.

  9. Rebuilt a 2003 R1 fuel pump for a mate which was in pretty bad shape. A few pics of the state of it... (we all like pics...)

  11. Amazed that the dealers don't bother to set the bike up for you as its so bloody easy...
    So it's been running around for the last 6 years with the forks not working optimally... explains a couple of things regarding the handling that I had noticed but just thought it was a characteristic of the bike.. oh and 26psi In both tyres after a "pre sales service" tick sheet exercise. I am looking forward to riding with the new set up.

  13. You’ll certainly notice the difference in the ride. Not sure if I’ve asked you this before, what tyres are you using?

It's amazing how many owners buy bikes, never bother to experiment with tyre pressures to find what works for them or get the suspension set up properly, and then sell the thing because it doesn't handle. If the suspension is half decent and in good order, getting it set up by a professional who knows what they're doing is one of the best value mods you can do. And should be one of the first.
    I've owned loads of bike which I bought used that had suspension setting that were all over the place. Previous owners had twiddled, didn't know what they were doing, ended up down a rabbit hole and gave up on the bike.

  15. Pretty sure they're original spec Pirellis Scorpion Trail 2's, definitely not the originals as the dates 2022. They seem to hang on nicely and feel good when the pressures 35psi.. Ran Michelin Road 6's on the Monster and was massively impressed with them so would be looking to probably replace these with Michelins in the future.

  16. Took delivery of an original pair of ST2 exhausts today so that when (and if) I ever do a bit of touring I will be able to fit my side panniers. It feels like a bit of effort and possibly unnecessary cost but I just wanted to make sure I could tour if I decided to. They were inexpensive and the seller did me proud with the price, delivery and packaging.

  17. That’s interesting as I have an unused set for an ST3 in my garage loft. Would you mind PM-ing me to let me know what they’re worth. The bike went years ago.
     
  18. A lot of people really like the Michelins. They have huge rain grooves in them so if you’re an all weather rider they’re a good choice.

    Personally I don’t go off road with my Multi so prefer full on road tyres such as the Road 6’s. However as I’m a fair weather nonce I don’t feel the need for 25% of my contact patch to be missing. Therefore I went for Dunlops. Stiff carcass though.
     
  19. Picked my Multi up from the Valeter’s/detailer. He did a good job on it,very good in fact. Better than I’ve ever done, looks great. Took it home, zipped it into a cocoon and that’s where it’s going to stay until at least Easter.

    Well, I did admit to being a fair weather nonce.

  20. I haven't tried the Road 6's but I tried the 5's on my KTM and couldn't get on with them. I liked that they had a sports tyre profile on a sports touring compound, so they were the closest thing I could get to a sports tyre on a bike with a 19" front wheel. They felt glued down when the bike was on its ear and the tyre was on its wide and sticky outer band, but the harder central compound strip lacked straight line grip under acceleration and braking and the join where the dual compounds meet developed into an unpleasent ridge. They seemed to lack stability in bends as well. They gripped OK but the bike didn't want to stick to its line and tended to wander needing constant corrections.
    I went back to Conti Road Attack 3s which corner like the bike is on rails and are single compound so grip equally well everywhere. Like the Dunlops they also have a stiffish carcass which transmits quite a lot of "noise" through the bars and chassis, but I quite like that as it's feedback that tells you what's going on between the rubber and the tarmac.
