Odd Van Conundrum

  1. Can you expand on ‘published in a local Echo newspaper as part of a historical retrospective’, perhaps the newspaper can provide higher quality images, and as you say, probably several taken at the same time, maybe from other locations. Would be great if there is a side view showing any sign writing on the E83W (?) van.

I’d assume the lights on the rear are to illuminate the work area so the operator can see whatever the mystery equipment does whilst dark, but no idea what….

  2. It does look like a Ford/Thames or maybe a Morris Z type?

  3. Taken from an article in the Southern Daily Echo, dated 17th September 2024, written by Ian Crump, Group Heritage Writer, https://www.dailyecho.co.uk/news/24578637.businesses-sprining-southamptons-bar/. Andy

  4. You wouldn't think that that wouldn't get past the average proof reader would you? ^ ("sprining")
Thriving at the time, but sad for me to see "Halford Cycle Company" mentioned - i wonder if they will be around in 10 years time? If you go into your local branch you can see how the range is changing and depleting. I don't know why i so took it for granted that i could always walk into a Halfords and not only buy a set of spark plugs for my car, but also be able to choose from several makes, something that went on for over 40 years!
