Went for an eye test on Saturday, and as my prescription has changed, thought I’d treat myself to a new pair of specs. Now, I know that Vision Express aren’t cheap, but when they want £340 for a pair of Oakleys with lenses, and I can get them for literally half the price online, bar a few pence, really do wonder how they are still in business. Especially as they no longer make up glasses in store, and quote 7-10 days for delivery, they really have no USP any more. So I’ve ordered online (from a small independent optician based in Kent), and have absolutely no shame about doing so.
I did it last year, you can now defer it once with very little justification, but you can’t defer a second time. I did the same as you, went in feeling like I’ll do my bit. And after 2.5 days of literally sitting in a little dungeon doing nothing while barristers argued and the cases didn’t go to trial I was beginning to list out the crippling cost of these inefficiencies to the tax payer. Then there is the fact they won’t start a case after lunch… so it was all just a terrible waist of time. I ended up doing 2 cases, one was complex and one was simple. Honestly you come away completely soul destroyed, if not by the wasted money, by the other people you serve with, our group of 12 had a woman who just always went to guilty because “he looks like a down and out druggy” and it just becomes so frustrating pushing people’s prejudice out of the argument. I for one actually welcome the changes to reduce the use of public jury, it’s honestly such a waist of money and I’m not sure the objectivity is there anymore. Especially seeing as I’ve seen both the ‘defendants’ out and about in town, which doesn’t make me feel terribly warm and fuzzy
Had to get up early as the alarm on the gixxer 750 was attempting to sound off, basically telling me that the battery was low, ended up climbing over the same thing that I hurt my knee on last week, so I could remove the seat and stick a battery charger on it, as soon as I connected the charger, the alarm went full volume (in a concealed space), with the stupid fob buried in my pocket
I ignored a twinge in my hip on the squash court too..then played through it in December... Same thing happened, was almost incapacitated. I made a balance board (with the cork roller underneath) and did stretches on it every day..the speed of recuperation was really something. I think the need to hold balance whilst in a stretch really helps as the nerves, tendons and muscles are going from active to passive constantly. Maybe worth a try?
Thanks that’s an Interesting idea. just googled home made balance boards, seem simple enough The problem I have is the tight knee. After I twinged it again yesterday it swelled around the knee cap, I had and still am experiencing pain climbing the stairs or with sudden movement. I currently have a support on it, I’ll look at exercises next. Sadly I think squash is out of the window for the time being.
As you age particularly above 60 you have either your mind going or your body............... This might be the way your body is telling your mind to back the fck up.
Had a job interview this morning that mainly entailed them asking me what’s the least I’ll take by way of salary ecxpectations, me telling them and them asking if I’ll take even less. Deep sigh.
I’ve found the ice pack liners from the camper van chilly bin work well, malleable and pea friendly I’d post a photo but it isn’t working this morning?
Quite possibly but to give in would be a great loss to me. I’ve been playing on and off for years occasionally mixing it in with badminton. I find the weight machines and treadmills at the gym mind numbing, even with headphones in listening to my favourite ballads of Sheena Easton, I get bored and impatient I’ll get back in the saddle once the swelling and pain have subsided, although at this great age progress can be a tad slower.
Yeah, I started badminton too last September, still play squash once a week, but add two sesssions of badminton...it's a LOT kinder on the body. I'm finding I can play badminton to a good level straight away, which is a real bonus!
Back at the hospital today, for another appointment at the fracture clinic, hopefully, I can get rid of the brace today
