996 Thinking Of Selling My 2 Bikes To Buy A 996

Discussion in '748 / 916 / 996 / 998' started by Gabagool, Jan 18, 2026 at 7:04 PM.

  1. Hello
Wondering if any of you wonderful people could offer advice on this. I have a 1098s with 3k miles on and a 999s with the same. I ride my 899 in the summer when I can so my other 2 bikes sit in my living room as nice ornaments…

iv always wanted a 996 sps, but I probably wouldn’t ride it much if at all so would be looking to just keep it in my front room/gaming room as per the other two. Yes I know I should ride them but I do not get the time even through the summer but being a huge Ducati fan I do like to look at them :)

would it be a better option for me to sell my 2 to get the sps do you think? Haven’t followed the market for the sps’s to be honest

    cheers all

  2. Unpopular opinion, but I really don't see bikes as a reliable investment.

A 996SPS is a wonderful bike thats for sure. If you've always wanted one and have the money -why not? Is it better to look at than a 1098 & a 999s only you can know. You will gain a little space though!

  3. Thanks dude no I agree with you on that. I only bought my two bikes as they were a cheap buy at the time as the sellers were getting rid of them.

It’s either the 998 or maybe look at a 1098R? thanks for the input :)

They certainly make great ornaments over the winter plus are a handy place for the family tissue supply in the kitchen!

  7. Yea, I'm lucky, although my wife occasionally grumbles and refuses to dust it, as she is frightened she will scratch it...!

  9. I absolutely love my 899 I think it’s perfect for the road.
I did ride my 1098 a few times and being about 64kg it scared the shit outta me I could keep the front down in 4th!!

  11. Supersports were made for the road and it does everything you need it to every time you switch the ignition on imo

  12. Ya, I had a 1098 for a while. It's an absolutely fantastic machine, but not an ideal bike for the decaying UK roads.
On the road, it seemed like I spent the vast majority of the ride 'holding it back'.
Although it's a very special experience when you do let it rip!

  13. The 1098 series bikes are great, I had a couple of 848 but the reality is that they are terrible on the road. Actually I think the 996/748 stuff are better road bikes from purely a body position perspective even if that is saying something!!

899 perfect road bike, keep it! The others I would sell and get a 996 but tbh would try to get a 998 final edition. It’s a better bike, and just as rare I think. That might be controversial

  14. I prefer my 996S to my 06 999. The 999 is planted, extremely fast if you give it everything...it feels like a 'Mercedes'...solid and well put together. The 996S feels much more like a race-bike on the road, the fairings shake and tremble, it feels much more raw and nimble. Even if it is down on power it is in my eyes perfect for the road.

Depends what you are looking for of course. ;)
