  5. Mini Cooper S broke down on the way to Plymouth t'other day and then failed its MOT the next day with a "do not drive" plus a long list of dangerous defects. I reckon the tester went OTT tbh as they probably saw me as a bit of a mark, what with my car stuck miles from home and Green Flag refusing to recover it because it was out of MOT. They quoted me £1,100 plus VAT for some of the work with a "TBC" for the rest of the job once they had removed some parts to assess the remainder of it.

I didn't fancy the idea of committing to that kind of open-ended arrangement with a company in a faraway town, staffed by people of whom I know nothing, particularly as they seemed the type to start billing you for storage as soon as the damn thing came off the ramp (they had signs up giving customers 48 hours grace before charges applied). I could envisage a situation in which half the suspension and braking system was dismantled, with them demanding £4k to put it all back together again or else they'd leave it as it is and bill me £100 per diem while it sat rusting away in their yard.

Anyway. I paid £150 to have it collected and brought back to me while I decide what to do next. It's probably only worth £2k but the rebuilt and tuned R53 engine is an absolute belter, so I'm in a bit of a dilemma.

  6. Seems odd that they wouldn't recover, I know the excuse if it's lifted and wheels contact the road.

I had a turbo blow and the RAC refused to tow it as part of my membership as my tax disc wasn't displayed as I had it in a draw at home.

They had me pay £250 for a transporter to take me home.

  7. The person dealing with the call told me it’s because their subbies don’t have O group (class?) insurance. They said they couldn’t even offer me a paid recovery outside my policy.

  15. Yesterday i've chucked out some of the low wattage light bulbs and replaced them with the original classic 60 / 100 watt bulbs, now i can see straightaway entering the room without the nonsense.

  16. I agree with this, I had a small disagreement with a member of family when all that "Save the Planet" bollocks started, it was as though doing your bit to save energy (the planet ...) was more important than possibly contributing to one's failing eyesight or tripping over as the light bulb "warmed up ".
