  1. What did you have for breakfast?

  2. I have had to put filament bulbs back into a car's headlamps, because the MOT place won't pass it with the LEDs in.

  3. Messed up the beam pattern I guess?

  4. Replacing filament bulbs with LEDs is technically illegal. But the previous MOT place never worried about it.

  5. Probably explains why there are a large number of vehicles being used with headlights that dazzle at night....

  6. Matrix headlights. I hate having a car behind me at night that's got them. They continually hunt around for optimum beam placement. It's like the driver is constantly flashing their lights. By the time they've registered a vehicle in front and adjusted you're already blinded. Same with auto-dip. Nine times out of ten you can see an oncoming vehicle round a bend or over a brow of a hill in advance by the light flare. Just use the bloody stalk and dip before the two vehicles are blasting each other full in the face.

  7. Thats because you will be blinding all the oncoming traffic. Osram Nightbreakers are good old school bulbs and will probably resolve this for you.

  8. I thought about putting them in my Landrover as the stock bulbs are pretty poor. But the bloke in the motorfactors said they can melt the lamp unit, they cost three time the price of stock bulbs and have about a third of the lifespan. I decided to stick with standard Lucas Prince of Darkness candles and just drive slower in the dark.
Not necessarily the case with all cars, of course, but apparently not suited to Freelanders. Best to check before buying.

  9. They were only sidelight/ running light bulbs, and they were not blinding anybody. But they are still technically illegal as I said.

  10. I tried three attempts lighting a bonfire today, but no joy as everything was wet through.
A photograph from the other day at East Preston, easy parking on local sideroads with great walking if you like that sort of thing.

  11. The bloke was pulling your leg.

  12. Possibly, but he's not the first person to have said it. He could have sold me the more expensive bulbs. Unless he had a shit load of Lucas candles he wanted shot of, of course...

  13. Good advice. I can tell anyone reading that Osram Night Breakers don't melt Mini lights.

  14. LEDs run cooler and draw less current, so are unlikely to melt anything designed to work with incandesent bulbs.

  15. A very wet hours ride for a breakfast meeting with some ex Ducati monster owners club members. Six of us, I was the only one on two wheels. No problem for the kymco super scoot .
