Other than those cheapo foldable aluminium ones on ebay and amazon is anyone using anything else that they recommend? ill need it for a 125 MX bike and a 749 track bike
Just bought this after many years of using a Tri fold ramp. https://ebay.us/m/jEH1hK I can still use the trifold to walk up with bike as it can be a little awkward stepping up into the van while holding the bike.
These look pretty good. They have loads on their site, folding, non-folding, single, double, industrial, hobby etc. And with optional security hooks/restraint etc. Extra Wide Motorcycle Kit 2.3m or 2.7m - Load your motorbike - Free delivery - The Ramp Factory I have one of those single folding cheapos with the red tabs. I've loaded all sorts of bikes with it from little middle-weights to big adveture bikes, Harleys and a Rocket 3. It's done them all no problem but I don't much like not having the wdith to walk up the ramp with the bike and when the rear wheel is on the ramp I'm always waiting for the bike's drive to spit the ramp off the back of the van. If I was buying another I'd look at something from these people.
I use this one https://www.acebikes.com/products/foldable-ramp/ramp-pro-max/ along with a tri-fold one on the left of it for me to walk on. They do a slightly less wide (and cheaper) version too.
The solution to this for me was to get a cheap used wheel chair ramp about 120cmm from ebay. Then there is no stepping up holding a 28 stone bike hassel!
Are they curved to allow flatter entry into the van? It's surprising how many bikes that you wouldn't consider low-slung like a cruiser will still ground out coming off the ramp.
That is a damn good solution/idea. I'm ok with narrow atm and step up, but there was times in the past when I was right on the limit physically...good to know for the future.
I guess it may vary from different makers, but mine are simply straight. The fold in the middle, and there are run off ends which grip the inside of the doorstep. As my new Monkey bike is very light I used these for loading today it as well as walking up today. The angle is steeper obviously but that doesn't matter with 60kg bikes! I also used them as the bed extender in my van to make the single into a double.
SEcond on the wheel chair/scooter ramp. I built a trailer a few years ago to pull the KTM 990 ADV and the Wife's Triumph 1200 Speedmaster behind the MH. I got the ramp 2nd hand and bolted it onto the trailer and put some chocks up t'other end, skooshed it!
I use a wide ramp that I bought from either constands (motea) or the Ramp People. https://www.theramppeople.co.uk/black-widow-motorcycle-kit-2750mm Ive got a black version of this ramp (might have bought from motea) used for track days and it is far superior to all the tiny ramps I see people nearly drop their bikes off of. I still typically walk alongside and step up/down but it is wide enough to correct your trajectory as you are coming up/down. It is not light, but very robust.
I recently watched a video on YouTube with ya man Ari I think it is Revzilla now. He used a slim ramp but he also used a big toolbox as a step to get into the van that way you can walk the bike in. I used to do a few trackdays and I used a bottle crate as a step. It makes a massive difference. Maybe also invest in a step or a box to bridge the gap. The big ramps sometimes are not wide enough and they take up a lot of room in the van.
I have the same ramp and it’s been great. The only thing was a couple of spot welds snapped that hold the deck plates on so I just drilled and riveted them, mine has had some heavy use over the years though.
