  2. That sounds like blackthorn, even after the thorn is removed the poison gets left behind. They're spiteful bloody shrubs but make great stockproof hedges.

  3. @stupidmoto good result

  5. Yes it was blackthorn. Very rare I react to it - or hawthorn. I assumed I was more or less immune as I get stabbed by it all the time. Usually it's just irritating until the thorn is removed. This one was weird. Puncture wound burns like severe nettle rash and the knee joint is painful and seized. Actually they're not toxic but they can host a lot of bacteria. Place I'm working is a filthy dump so that may account for it. They gave me a tetanus and a course of antibiotics.

  6. horrible stuff, I've been unlucky over the years and overall I would prefer a couple of wasp stings as pain and irritation can remain for weeks can't it? Good news that it didn't break off and stay in your knee.

I see that Guardian journalists are still crowbarring references to wild swimming into articles at every available opportunity

  8. 100% guaranteed weather forecast for East Dorset tomorrow between 3-5pm, torrential downpours with localised flooding, high probability of the same forecast for Thursday.

In other news, the bike is booked in for a service and MOT Thursday :joy:

  9. Current flood map warnings. If you have a triangle thingamybob by your house, move your bikes upstairs.

  13. but thinking about it just a lil more there. if all goes to plan, i will have the only workshop in Oban that's not on a flood plain (seriously) and ferk me, when it does rain, it's not really rain. it's a deluge. so fecking man up fin.
    anyhoo.
an old mate from the forestry popped in the other day. i haven't seen him in a while. Dynamite Dave. formally known as Chopper dave who has moved up the ranks to managing forestry Quarrying. he was chatting about the weather (as one does) they monitor the rainfall quite closely. he said the amount of rain Argyll gets in any one year hasn't really changed. it's just goes from dry season to monsoon season these day, rather than the constant drizzle the west was renowned for. weeks of scortchio to days of absolute bonkers pishing it down.
