Oh I dunno, what did they cost back in '73 - maybe that plus a 50% markup. Seriously though, why bother making all this retro/nostalgia crap, just concentrate on making decent, current motorbikes that people want, that would be my take on it.
Takes easy money off rich people. As a business plan it’s genius. By the numbers Ducati sell they are doing ok in selling the bikes people want, I would say.
Thats my understanding. I read it enough times in all the bike press at the time. I love Ducati exactly for their history of pared down sporting bikes with an engineering excellence and fabulous looks. Surely no controversy there but, and i may be in a minority here, the very latest bikes do not have the looks that i like anymore. The colour schemes dont do it for me either. If i were to buy a new bike today i would not be looking for the cheapest bike in my chosen bracket. Nor any single parameter like top speed, power, tech, weight etc. i am willing to pay a premium for what i consider desirable though. So, a truly faithful retro version of the bikes i love would get my money. As i stated in an earlier post on this thread Ducati could have done so much more to re create the look of the green frame. It is likely Ducati looked at this idea and decided the numbers of people like me are not worth the effort. Clearly they didn't think it was a good idea because they haven't done it.
I reckon it’ll grow on people (like a wart?) need to see it in the flesh. I have to be honest, I’m not sure Ducati make a bike I want anymore, I have my Supersport, don’t mind the look of a Diavel and Multistradas are good bikes but not sure I want either. Plus, £25K on a bike is out of the question. I’ve been looking on autrader at older Ducatis, spent thousands in my head!
