Had it for 3.5 years. Keep getting a warning that the LF indicator is not working - intermittent. They are aftermarket but changed them >1 year ago……? Maybe the wiring needs a check? OK, the bigger issue…... In recent weeks (I’ve only been riding when it’s not raining so ingress not an issue here) it keeps cutting out. Does it mainly if I ask for too many revs too quickly after start (cold). It’s never been an issue before (starting or just continuing to run) and it’s bloody dangerous. Battery (according to AllTrac) is currently 12.9v. Straight off the Optimate it.s 13.8v. Now I’m having trouble starting it, even after being on the Optimate. Starts then dies. I’ve noted that if I keep my finger on the start button it will stay running and this is the best chance of it keeping running when I let go after a few seconds. Could it be a dodgy TPS or starter switch? I’ve no clue on electrics so fear an expensive main dealer trip is in the offing but would be grateful for any insights. Thanks in advance. BJB.
I have a 1200 Thruxton R which is essentially the same engine. The major service at 10,000 miles involves taking off the throttle bodies (and re-balancing them?) Because of this, I took it to my Triumph Dealer rather than my local mechanic. I was pleasantly surprised that the "major" service came in at £240. No idea whether this would cure your problem though.
It could be all sorts of things. Do you know anyone with a code reader? Might be worth pulling off the data and see if anything pops up. Depending what you can get off, it may be possible to compare to the expected values from the manufacturer. Basics like the fuel filter mentioned above are worth doing anyway, and a bottle of fuel system cleaner through it won’t harm either. Out of interest, does the bike do decent runs? I have seen similar on bikes that only do short runs/ never get properly hot. If Itks only done short runs then may be worth a longer trip (appreciate this is hard if it’s not running/ running so badly). Good luck!
Thanks TBay. I don’t know anyone with any plugin equipment to look at it. Will do the fuel filter and pipes myself (and for a new gasket!) then see what happens. Weather permitting I do a 25 min commute on it frequently. And it gets decent runs in between. I always try to kale sure it gets well up to temp.
Another thought, has it been sat for a few weeks at all? Modern fuel goes off stupid quick. Fresh fuel could make a big difference if it has.
@bigjimmyb Andy at wickford superbikes might have a reader. Not far from southend, might be worth giving him a quick call? He read the error codes on my hyper, i assume a different diag tool is needed but he could have it
Invest in TuneECU. It is Android only now https://tuneecu.net/TuneECU_En/android.html Cables from LonElec https://www.lonelec.com/product/tune-ecu-kkl-interface-cable-lead-for-triumph-motorcycles/
I’ve got a heal tech job I’ve for resetting the service light. I might bite the bullet and get OBD Star.
