Just doing some long range research on national bike transportation services for a possible upcoming house move. Pickup from Wiltshire but drop off not yet decided... ho hum. It'll be for two bikes, the Darmah & V-Raptor, but I'd also want the option of storage to ease logistics. Any recommendations?
I had a good enough relationship with my dealer for him to pick up and deliver my two bikes to my new home 130 miles away
Lots of cities have short term storage places these days, so perhaps thats solution combined with a van rental? Mind you, if you are moving somewhere nice, you might be able to get one of us to ride a beautiful Darmah there for you? I'd like first dibs on a St Ives move in June/ July/ August?
Make sure you do your research on the storage facility, I have a mate who had his £60k camper nicked from a 'secure storage'. I used a shipping container (they exist in many different sizes) for a couple of years.
After a brief google search a couple of dealers names did come up so even though I haven't bought from a dealer for 20 years that might be an option to consider. With things as they are dealers might be looking at other revenue streams and they're ideally set up for such a service. I'm thinking I'll only need storage for summat like a week or so just to tide me over the moving & settling in period.
Have looked in to the container option myself but not sure about the condensation element. How did you find it?
Never had an issue with it. I found the container the best solution by far. Super secure on a hyper locked and camera-ed compound.
Move Motorcycles. They do national motorcycle logistics and can offer short term storage. Quality service
The one I've been looking at had camera's etc. I asked about condensation and was told some sort of coating was applied to alleviate this. I was a bit sceptical but good to know you've not had any problems. Thanks
Not sure where you are moving to but Wiltshire isn't too far from me. i used to be based in Didcot. i recently moved to london but wanted all my bike stuff to stay local to my old house. i am renting a 20ft container , its dry and also under a roof. no condensation at all. 158 quid a month rolling contract so i can clear out any time, 24hr security on site, CCTV and it is gated access that you need a pass to get in.
This company advertise moving and storing bikes and might be suitable for your needs, but I'm not sure about cost: https://www.sosmotorcycletransport.com/ . They provide services to a number of Bike manufacturers, and have moved a number of my bikes on behalf of BMW Motorrad UK, with experienced staff and well equipped vehicles. In my case they have kept me informed of the arrangements and proved reliable. However, I wasn't paying the bill! Hope it helps. Tom.
I've used Move Motorcycles twice and very happy with them on both occasions... https://www.movemotorcycles.co.uk/
I did a lot of research on this when moving a few years ago - past comments on here and other forums, Google reviews etc. In the end I used a local option (who no longer does it) via Geoff Baines, but at the time Move Motorcycles were top of the list, and I noted lots of review comments from people who'd used several companies and rated them highest.
