Hi everyone, My 999 has been stood for around 1 1/2 years and this year I'm looking to have her back out on the road. My issue is that when I press the starter button the bike doesn't start but only a single click. sequence of what happens: 1. dash does its sequence, fuel pump primes, and immo light goes off, 2. press starter button and clicks (like a clutch plate rattle) with the clutch pulled in. so far I've put a brand new battery in, replaced the starter solenoid, and cleaned battery loom terminals, and loom connectors for the solenoid. Thanks for everyones help.
Can you turn the engine with a turning tool, or using the back wheel in 6th gear. Even with the plugs in it should move. Try putting +ve power direct to the motor connector. If it turns, you have wiring problems, if it turns with some strange noises you may have sprag clutch problems
I should have also said that if I bridge the terminals on the starter solenoid then the bike starts and runs, I ran her up to temperature until the fans kicked in, switched her off and then still had the same clicking issue
Is it seized Ok - that's good news. I'd remove the battery cable from the solenoid connection, energise the solenoid and check the resistance between the 'big' connections. Could be that your new solenoid is duff.
