Buongiorno friends I've come into ownership of a 2004 S4R that I can't get to start and was hoping someone here might have some answers. So It's got a fresh battery, the dash turns on when I turn the key but I don't hear the fuel pump, the start button does nothing, not even a click. I've checked inside the button housing and it looks pretty much perfect, I've tried shorting the sidestand switch, I've checked the wiring behind the dash, but I'm stumped now and can't think of what else to try
First thought was the fuel pump relay but since the starter button does nothing I'd suspect possibly an issue with the supply to the ECU. Have you checked all the fuses?
I did check the fuses and they all looked intact, I'll double check just incase. ECU is a good shout I'll check that too, thank you
Go through all the cheap stuff first. Wiring, fuses, and relays. Clean the surfaces between the heatsink and ECU with emery paper. Check the little earth fly lead onto the ECU bolt. The dash in the Monster is prone to immo failure, the solution is to disable the immo in the ECU.
Dash on, good battery, no click or any thing to the fuel pump. Okay. I'd get the multimeter and check the switchgear. Check all the wires going into the ecu too. Check the big red wire to the solenoid and the fuse there too (30amp I think). Can't hurt to check if the fuel pump is getting power. My money is on the switchgear wire or connector. Good luck.
