959 959, Reability And Desmo Service Cost

  1. yeah the 1299 and 959 had the same headers (the 1199 and 899 had smaller headers and different exhaust clamp) so yeah a 1299 slip on kit will fit. You will need different lower fairings though for slip on pipes, so for example my corse has akrapovics on it and as part of the kit they changed the lower fairing panels. But you could just get 1299 lower panels if you get a red bike

in terms of map, probably the cheapest option is to buy one of those ‘upmap’ dongles, not to be confused with the Ducati official UpMap which is locked to the bike, but I mean the dongle, they supply you a map and you just load it off your phone. It won’t be like a full custom map but it will be pretty close and as good as the Ducati UpMap

  2. Thanks. That's good to hear.

Looking at your bike. The corse looks very nice. Looking at old ads a course only cost about 1k more. Decisions, decisions :D will start with looking at the red bike anyhow.

  3. if you can get one for 1k more then it’s worth it, as the forks and shock alone are probably worth 2.5k but it’s not worth busting balls over as on the road the difference isn’t night and day

  4. Thanks alot phill and everyone else for your time. I'm going to start looking at the red bike since it's near. If a corse shows up I'll will go for that otherwise I think a red one would be fine. I'll have the 1098 as well with all the goodies (once it's repaired)

  5. if you haven’t ridden a Panigale engine bike compared to a 1098, just be prepared to embrace revving it! The superquadro engines love revs! So different you deffo can keep the 1098 and have very different experiences even though they are both ‘Ducati twins ‘’

  6. I can do that :joy: I'm actually hoping for some difference so it just won't be another classic Ducati. Then I would go with a 916 series or a 999. My 1098 is one of my forever bikes. When, if ever, it's totally out of action it will be a piece in my living room resulting in at least one divorce.

  7. In terms of servicing cost. If you can find a relatively local reputable independent Ducati trained mechanic, one who's gone solo having worked for a franchised dealer. Then your service costs will be less.

I'm lucky enough to have one near me and the last Desmo service on my 1260 Multi, along with belts (no belts on 959), fluids (oil, brake and clutch), oil and air filters, plugs etc. In other words a comprehensive service. Was around £730 (no desmo adjustment required). He's been well regarded by local Ducatisti for many years. Surely Sweden has similar?

  8. I'm sure there is, I just don't know anyone :joy: since I have my own workshop and can solve most things with a little help I don't thing desmo on 959 would be a problem. I was just wondering if any, and if not, why no one does it themselves since there are so little info. On the 1098 and all older Ducatis there are tons of info on desmo.
