That’s very clean! I have the 959 pegs on mine and they are much better, comfort seat takes a lot of heat out of the rear and the gear position switch will fail at some point, other than that I’m on almost 39000 miles and it’s a peach of a bike.
Only have three mods on my third and current 899 (barring rad and tank protection and tail tidy). Termi slip ons (for the sound alone) BST wheels (makes the biggest difference in handling and by some distance) CNC Rear sets (smoother gear changes and feels more *responsive when shifting up through the gears quickly). As others have said the pegs are grippier too, although i never found that a problem. No carbon barring the heal guards that came with the rear sets.
Thanks all for the input re pegs - I will look for a set of 959 footpegs. I presume they are a straight swap? They certainly look like it, but I'm not near the bike to be able to have a closer look at the moment. Will also have a look for a comfort seat and have already considered the problem of tackling the heat problem. I am loathe to spend a fortune on the pre-cut stuff, so will likely just get some self adhesive pads and cut to shape myself.
Three 899s! Were there other bikes between them and you kept going back? That's really encouraging. I am going to try to mine as standard as possible for now barring sensitive/needed upgrades and protection. Bet the Termi sounds great in person though - the standard pipes sound pretty good as it is. I have heard carbon wheels will improve this significantly, but baby steps until get to know her a bit better...
Front Footrest Foot Pegs for DUCATI Panigale 899 959 1199 1299/S/R V4 1100/S/R i got these cheapies, so much better than thew oem ones great choice of bike, mine sadly has been in the garage since may, and i have missed it soooooooooo much, like losing a dog the slowest slowest mechanic in the world, i hoping the engine comes back like brand new
I’ve had 2x 899’s, a Panigale V2 and now a 959 corse, I love them. The Panigale V2 was the worst one though, it we disappointing
Interesting... did they "fix it worse" with the V2? Altogether too common an occurrence for consumer products, so I guess motorbikes aren't immune
this is very interesting phil748 i have been in earlier to see my guy and its still no progress, at this rate i won't see my 899 until june or july i am at the stage of saying fuckit, ill go and buy another bike it would be between a v2 with full akrapovic, a 959 with akrapovic or any 1199, what do you think?? ive heard the v2 needs a decent exhaust to open up the the engines full potential?
I’ll start buy saying that it’s just my opinion, albeit that I’ve been riding 899 and the variants since 2015 so on and off 10 years. the V2 for me is just too compromised by Euro5, the power dip at 4-5k revs is absurd, some say ‘just rev it’ but in day to day use it’s just annoying. the other big issue with the v2 for me is the heat. I’ve ridden loads with a mate on his 899 and his was running consistently 12-14 degrees cooler, so in traffic it’s bearable, the v2 just wasn’t, regularly getting to 107-108 degrees through the 0.2 mile sections of traffic lights near my house, this is in low 20’s ambient. the final thing was the blipper and quick shift on my particular bike was terrible, often it would change down, but then throttle surge late and it was just awful tbh, even after replacement and software updates it was bad. Another thing but important, the LED lights were okay but mine filled with water. A rare occurrence I’m sure but the warranty replacement was over £1000! Which when buying a bike used needs some thought, a headlight for a 959 is probably £200 I will say, I have been told that a remap and the akrapovics really really help the V2 but I’ve not tried it, wilf at motorapido told me that it wouldn’t make it run as cool as the 899 without custom mapping. regards the 959, I never ‘got it’ over the 899 but now I own the 959 with akrapovics, you can feel a decent amount more power down low than a 899, but I wouldn’t say the difference up top is massive. The 899 has a fun 2 stroke style step in power around 7k revs, reminds me of the 2 strokes, but the 959 kinds drives from 5k revs and then is quite linear. The 1199 would be an option, I’ve ridden one a few times but I’m not qualified to really offer insight into it other than it felt way more ‘wild’ than the 899, not just power but the chassis felt twitchy and nervous also. I hope that helps.
Oh… also… look at the fuel up weight of the V2 compared to a 899 or even a 1199s, that’s when you start to look and say hmmm it’s more than 10KG heavier, maybe some is in the exhaust but still.
thank you for that, i am not convinced by the v2 although we all should love it, lots dont there was an 1199 on AT for £9,995 with 700 miles thats nearly 5 grand down on what its worth, i phoned and it was sold, he said he had fcked up big time in pricing it
