I have just managed to remove the sump drain plug from my ST2 using the classic screwdriver and hammer technique, required because the 10mm hex socket had rounded out (don't know why, and has never previously happened in 15+ years of oil changes on 2 different ST2's...). I had ordered a replacement off ebay (definitely listed as fitting ST2's), which arrived this morning. I chose the external hex head type as, in principle, I reasoned it was a better design to avoid any similar future problems. Elation at finally getting the old plug out has been somewhat tempered by the fact that the new one doesn't fit... It seems to be the correct diameter and, visually, the thread pitch looks the same, BUT when inserted it starts to bind almost straight away. I am loath to force it in any way...especially having read the above saga! The old one still screws in smoothly. Has anyone else come across this problem? Does anyone know where I can get a sump plug with an external hex head AND a thread that WILL fit the ST2 sump?
