Dead 749/999 Clocks

Discussion in 'Wanted' started by Simon Raglione, Feb 26, 2026.

  1. I only need the "glass" off the analogue rev counter so i am hoping to get hold of some dead clocks with an intact screen

  2. Good evening Simon I’ve got one in the loft
Are you talking about the round screen not square one?

  3. Yes please, the round screen. That would be great, it looks like someone put their hand on the glass when pushing it back on its rubber mounts and cracked it.

  4. The perspex on these clocks is known to crack without any physical interaction.
One theory is that they get overheated by sunlight through the screen.

  5. OK, good to know. Probably being unfair in my assumption

  6. Good morning Simon I got it out of the loft this morning . I replaced mine last year
I found a complete unit brand-new, well shall I say the top cover. you can have this free of charge just pay the postage
You might be able to get the round lens out of the casing.

  8. There are some very faint cracks in it hard to photograph

  9. Are the cracks in the lens or the surrounding casing please?

  10. Simon, the casing is broken. I was just saying you could have it if you could salvage the lens. It has a couple of tiny stress marks in it.
As others have said, they are famous for cracking!
Something to do with sun/heat being magnified through the screen.
I spent hours & hours trying to find a replacement. The eBay ad I posted is an Italian company but it seems he doesn’t make them anymore?!?
