Abba Skylift Etc. For 1299

Discussion in 'Clothing, Gadgets & Equipment' started by JAT, Aug 11, 2018.

  1. Hello, I’m looking at stand options for my 1299 and I quite like the idea of the Abba Skylift. Trouble is I believe it involves cutting the fairing which is a no go for me.
Does anyone know of an equivalent stand that doesn’t need the fairing mod?
I’ve looked at normal paddock stands which I may explore in more detail but a decent one is £150, I’ve got the normal Abba stand but the fairing cut is also needed for this.
The only other way I can see is take the belly pan off every time I use it.
Sorry for another stand thread. Cheers JAT.

  2. :upyeah: Was looking for a picture of a panigale on bricks but no success. o_O

  3. The blurb on the ABBA site states no mods are required.

  4. Didn’t @Jolley have something like this and had to cut the fairing for it to fit?

  5. Thread moved

  6. Due to the stand fixing to the swing arm pivot point a small amount of the belly pan needs removing or the belly pan itself has to come off.
It's annoying as the kit is superb, I looked at the Harris paddock stand but it's £175!

  7. It takes literally 2 minutes to remove the lower fairings so isn’t the end of the world having to do this.

I’ve got the Abbas stand with the front lift beam and worked well when changing the forks.

  8. You can remove the whole fairing off a 999 in 2 minutes, but that was ‘designed’ o_O

  9. I didn’t have the stand, however my fairings had the cutout. Not even noticeable, however another owner who had the stand noticed it on my bike. Just a tiny little semicircle (not even a full semi circle) cut out of one of the edges to expose the piece it slots into.

  10. How much of the fairing lower was cutout? I know this an old thread. @Jolley

  11. I have the Skylift and find it so much easier when working on the bike now, I still use the paddock stands and normal Abba stand as well when adjusting the chain and cleaning etc.
Having the Skylift now allows me to sit using a small wheeled workshop stool so I can bring the bike to a comfortable height instead of having to lay on the garage floor, good for working on the underside of the bike when required.
I don't have a belly pan on the monster but I remember on my 1098S there was a an interference with the belly pan but I think I just used to loosen the fasteners and there was enough play to allow me just to pull it out of the way to engage the bobbins.
I think the inconvenience of having to removing the belly pan when having to drop both wheels for a tyre change etc is minor to the convenience it give to access the bike.
It also allows me to move the bike out of the way if required,
Couldn't do without mine now. also recommend buying the storage kit, it breaks down into a small assembly that can be tucked away in a corner of the garage.

  12. Thank you, that's good information. I will try loosening the belly pan and moving it slightly.

  13. Hi Stevo, it worked for me but that was on my 1098S, I had an 1199 Pani for a while but I can't remember if I had to do the same?
I just used a couple of microfiber cloths tucked between the stand and belly pan to protect the paintwork.
