V4 Rally Won’t Start

  1. I bought a winter bike a few years ago to primarily save the Ducati from the ravages of the winter roads and salt. The Rally has been sat at work since October, periodically I have started it up and charged it as required, Biketrac tells me when. In the last couple of weeks I fired it up, no problem except the low key battery light came on. So I grabbed a brand new Duracell CR2032 and popped it in. I forget whether I tested it or not.

Today Mrs YMFB announced she wanted to go out on the Ducati, so we rode to the office, booster pack in hand. I turned the ignition on and it almost fired up before the vehicle battery gave up. I attached the booster pack and now nothing, nada, no display nothing.

I grabbed a brand new Panasonic CR2032 and changed the key fob battery, still nothing.

We decided to leave it and went for a spin on the winter hack.

The vehicle battery would have had plenty of juice for the TFT even if not enough to start the engine.

Any clues as to what I might have done or missed.

  2. Im assuming your booster pack was fully charged too?

You may have blown the main fuse in the attempt to start.

Also note the numerous control units on the bike don’t like <10V and are prone to shutting down and re booting.

  3. I had the battery just suddenly give up on mine one day when I was out for a ride. I stopped for coffee and then the bike turned over once and that was it. Recovery got the bike jump started but I went and got a new battery. The bike had been sat for a while not on a tender but started up ok at home. Since then I leave it on a tender the whole time.

  4. She runs !

The booster pack was not 100% charged but close, I can only imagine I hadn’t connected it properly, it is tricky as the crocodile clips are big and the terminals are small.

I charged the bikes battery using the traditional battery charger and a couple of hours later all was good.

    thanks for helping.
