I'm going to Europe twice in the next few months, and there's no way I want to do that on the standard Multistrada seat. With no +30mm high seats (supposedly comfier) at a sensible price or Sargents appearing on eBay, I bought a Wunderlich ACTIVE COMFORT seat. This is only my opinion - I can't guarantee it's the same for everyone. I'm 6'4" with 36" legs. Compared to the standard Multistrada rider's seat (of which there are many) it has a curved / cupped shape, a bit like your arse, so it's a lot more comfy than the Ducati ones, which feel almost domed the other way. It's firmer than the standard seat, which is good for longer rides. Soft seats generally mean you sog in I've found, which locks you in place and can be uncomfortable after an hour or two. Instead this one still has a little wriggle room during long use, which is good. The material is quite grippy and hard-wearing, so you're not going to be sliding smoothly sideways to get your knee down, but then again we're talking Multistradas here. Height claims to be 'standard' and it feels it - you also can get a low one, and a heated one. I went for heated because they had a deal on (£100 off), but the heating is underwhelming, so the unheated variant is probably the best value for money. Is it like a Sargent seat? I've had a few Sargents and I'd say it's pretty close, yes - possibly very slightly firmer, and the surface is grippier than my Sargents, but it's of similar high quality. Is it worth it? For me, yes. If anyone is near Banbury/Leamington area, they're welcome to come and sit on it. Image courtesy of Nippy Normans:
For me the standard seat dug into my inner thighs at the front. I got mine reshaped and added memory foam so it’s narrower at the front which is a big improvement.
I bought one of the Wunderlich seats for my 2021 V4S, I had the original OE seat re-upholstered with memory foam after about 10K miles but after 30K miles it has gone soft and slippery so decided on a new seat. Thank you Richtea999 for the link. After 350 miles of mixed riding, I am very happy with the Wunderlich seat, comments as follows - It feels very different at first, I felt that I was sitting further back on the bike and sort of locked in to the seat. The seat material is very grippy and I don’t slide forward on it which is good. It is quite hard but seems to bed in a bit after use. Seems a little taller to me but only a small amount and as it sits you back more, I find my arms are straighter but still allows some bend at the elbows. The seat cover is noticeably cooler than the OE plastic pillion seat cover when left out in the sun. I went for the red stripe standard seat version (not the low or heated version – no one should need a heated rider seat with a V4 engine!) and the red goes well with the subframe. On the smoother roads – when you can find them – it is a great improvement and feels like the Touratech comfort seat I had on my 1260. On bumpy back roads I did start to notice that the seat was definitely harder than the old one. I have a long trip coming up in June on smoother European roads so I am sure it will be perfect. Overall really good and I am happy with the seat.
Glad to read that @Veetwin I went for the black non-heated version; If I get a substantial improvement on confort, I´ll order another one for my missus Cheers
The sensible choice. As Veetwin intimated, only a masochist orders a heated seat for a V4. Since I've only had the bike since February and we've now reached perfect bike weather, I now realise what he means.
