1000 Öhlins On Base 1000ds

  1. Hello

I've just acquired a base 1000 DS. It already has Öhlins in the back.

Does anyone know if the Öhlins from 1000s or 1100s is a direct swap? Looking at pictures from what claim to be 1000s it looks like they have different upper tripple, handlebar risers and 29mm handlebar while the base have no risers and a 22mm handlebar. Is that correct?

Is it worth swapping in the Öhlins? If it needs upper tripple, risers and new handlebar it would be expensive.

I think the base bike rides pretty fine but I like the Öhlins gold and I really don't like the stock handlebars since it looks like they are of a bicycle.

So, a secondary question. If one would skip Öhlins and just upgraded the stock suspension. One could buy rizoma 29 mm bar with risers and bar ends for around 400 euro or CNC racing 22 mm with bar ends for 100 euro. Is the fatter bar with risers worth it? Has anyone made the swap? Very little info online.

  2. After doing some more research (after asking on a forum, like a pro) I think I can answer my own question.

The part numbers between s and non s are the same for tripple clamp and axel. The s have other than Öhlins bar risers, thicker bar and different front brakes. So Öhlins seems to be a direct swap.
