I don't use Google Maps at all as I have found that it uses a lot of battery power on the phone and other apps are as good if not better. MRA is good as is TomTom Go, I have Calimoto on Android (at last) but haven't tried it yet.
I just tested it, the interface and position is all good. I need to work out what I want where but for simple sat nav it was good. MRA wasn’t setup and I need to try that. My concern about the mounting position is still there, it wobbles, not much but enough to be annoying and know it will eventually break. As I have failed to find the correct adapter plate, I think next step is to sketch it up, get it modelled at work then find someone locally to 3d print it. Unless anyone has a better solution?
A small correction to that: - MRA Route Planner does use live traffic info and winter pass closures, but you can simply choose to turn it off which, as you say, is much better if you're planning a route for the future / a different season. You can also choose to turn it off when using the MRA navigator app to navigate live, but YMMV on that one.
Ran Calimoto on a Carpuride W702S Pro with a Pixel 9a today. Ran flawlessly. Route popped up as soon as it was started on the phone and jumped back in after every stop. Running Calimoto and radio app for over 4 hours and used 46% of the battery, so should be good for a full days tour. Note that I made sure the phone screen was off before putting the phone away. Graphics were better than I expected. And the unit seemed to get smaller, the more I got used to it being there. It did jiggle a bit but then you are not looking at it all the time and it didn't interfere with viewing the screen and wasn't distracting. I've taken the wired controller off. Can't see a use for it and I didn't like it on the grip. Made reaching the switches more awkward and further away. Sealed the plug with some heatshrink tube
MRA is great but I wound up ditching my Carpuride as the main issue was that the phone tended to overheat and shut-down when in my tank-bag. That was with the phone kept charged plugged in via USB in the tank bag. Otherwise it would go flat well before a day's ride was over. The combination of running MRA, the GPS chip and charging all contributed to the overheating. As to a QD setup for the Carpuride I used the Evotech solution with the Quadlock mounting block which was very neat. Made that more 'stealth' by replacing the bright blue QL lever with a shorter black one. I'm now using just the phone on an SP Connect wireless charging anti-vibration mount. Again on the Evotech mount with their SP Connect adapter. Still having lesser phone overheating issues but working on that.
