Ironic but when i saw him literally no words were exchanged....all when he was at the TT..... 1. First time i went - years ago....his bike failed coming off the mountain and up the hill into Douglas, he dropped his bike against the hedge and started to walk down a side-road....probably a dozen kids following him.....by the time he approached the end of the side road a car pulled up as it was slowing the door opened - he got in and fucked off leaving all the kids... 2. Couple of years later...he finished his race...we were in the paddock - he was racing for that white haired irish bloke - forget his name...anyway the paddock was packed - his was 4 deep with people....he had his back to everyone, finished chatting with whoever he was chatting with....grabbed his mountain bike and fucked off.... 3. Not on a race day a year later....we were sitting in the forecourt of the garage by the crossroads at Ramsey ready to go over the mountain...i noticed his Moodies transit van down from the car sales place opposite...i said to my mate.... "thats guy martin down there..." the drivers window was open but i couldnt see him...my mate said to me "shall we go and see him" to which i replied "nah...dont think so..." he went down there - i think he got to the window....a few other people cottoned on and started to walk down...window goes up...away he goes... In stark contrast....McGuiness will go out into the paddock and chat to everyone until no one talks to him anymore...every time ive met him...lovely guy. Edit: In his [Guy Martin's defence] while ive not read it in his book he says he cant handle the attention...so thats definately true....
It is very different doing a TV show to chatting to the throng. Did someone say that he was autistic?
Agreed but it does come with the territory, like it or not. That being said politeness doesnt cost anything..
I've remembered that all my music is on GoogleDrive, but I've never digitised 'Crime . . .' for some reason. That needs fixing. Right now, I've got 'Breakfast in America' going, but I'll have to fix that when I get home . Or screw it, I might just but it again on MP4, or summit, if you can.
Putting the topic back to VPN, I'm going to have to do it. I cannot get BBC Anything, which is not a problem, Google news works fine, but the adverts are Spanish. A Mitsubishi ASX black edition for 24,000 Euros. Is that good compared to the UK? I quite fancy one, but not for that money,
I met him by chance in Schiphol airport. He chatted away with me for a good 40 minutes (we were catching the same flight). He was absolutely brand new! Nice bloke…
I don't actually care if he gets grumpy or not, his TV is entertaining and I'm hardly likely to ever be mates with him. He does all I want from him, providing me with TV content I want to watch. Actually, getting grumpy with people hassling him probably makes him more of a normal bloke than being nice all the time.
It's not as "unschackled" as you think. The CAA wil come down on you like a ton of bricks if you are deemed to have flown irresponsibly or flouted Rule 5 of the Air Navigation order, amongst many other rules and regulations they can very easily cite against you. Colin McRae's ambition, I am afraid, simply outweighed his talent when it came to his demise. Largely due to some reckless flying at low altitude and exceeding the capabilities of the aircraft (well outside it's operating envelope). These sort of misdemeanours only ever end up with one outcome. Barry Sheene on the other hand, was by all accounts, quite an accomplished helicopter pilot, at least in the sense that he had a healthy sense of mortality and was respectful of his own limitations. Allegedly he had an engine failure not far from his home at the time in Charlwood, Sussex, and performed an almost text book autorotation to the ground. The same cannot be said for so many other individuals who get into hot water and it rapidly goes very badly wrong for them. Be that because of deteriorating weather for which they are ill prepared or not trained, little or no training for a specific failure, or they are simply over confident of their true ablilities. Press-on-itus being a regular culprit.
am well aware Topolino - word was used light-heartedly following Peter's post - could add a lot more but best not on a Forum. I can add that i saw Dick Emery crash his "light aircraft" on take-off on a gusty day but can't remember where or age for that matter. Possibly about 12.
Just by chance, did you know Norman Lees (former Royal Navy and Falklands veteran) from Copthorne West Sussex?
