Is The Smoke Normal?

  1. Hi guys and girls,

I’ve fitted an arrow exhaust and Ducabike clear clutch cover. I’ve just started the bike up, first time since fitting these parts and there was smoke and a burning smell coming from everywhere. I panicked and stopped the engine. Im 95% positive that I’ve fitted everything correctly, so I’m hoping it could just be the exhaust “burning in”. Has anyone had this happen? Any advice or comments?

  2. A guess is oil dripped onto the exhaust when the clutch cover was removed, if so just run it until it burns off, or clean it off with brake & parts cleaner.

  3. No oil dripped and there was a cloth cover the exhaust pipe. It’s quite of smoke and burning smell. I’m gunna run it tomorrow for a while, stood with buckets of water in case it sets on fire. I’m hoping it’s just the burning off phase.

  4. New exhausts have a habit of smoking. Some more than others. When it’s formed the pipework is lubricated and this can stay on the steel. I’d double check the clutch cover is sealed then go for a run.
