What Does This Sign Signify And Where Have You Seen It?

  1. The B500, along with all the average speed cameras they've now installed :(

  2. I drove it twice this week and did not see a single average speed camera. They don't want to spoil the fun for anyone thaay just want people to grow up and be responsible.

  3. I sat in a laybye yesterday on the B500 for 5 minutes and watched the same twats that we see at Boxhill showing off to their mates how they could corner at high speed. No body cared about anybody, all they wanted to see was some young twat pile his bike into the barrier and get helicoptered off. I learned a lot about people yesterday just by watching for 5 minutes.

  4. I did not see much when I was there last year !

  5. Maybe they were regular European pole type cameras but I saw plenty when I rode the length of it in both directions last year. 100% agree about people being sensible (we saw some proper knobs while we were there), just a shame so much of it is just a 70kph (43mph) limit.

  6. Completely agree; it is a fantastic road to ride but within ones ability. My considered opinion is that the bicycles area amongst the biggest problem as they cause the cars to travel at cycle speed thereby causing massive tailbacks and that causes the bikes to naturally want to overtake; but there are buses, trucks and many other road users to also consider.

  7. That's a wonderful photo and I was there yesterday.

  8. It must be nice to have something like that close to where you live.

For me the fog solved the issue of speeding !

Another stop that morning - to admire the view :D

  9. Just wonderful and in many ways so glad that the fog kept you safe.

  10. Agreed. I was quite glad of it because it slowed everything right down. I have never been there before and I was expecting week-end racers to be coming past me.

    Anyway, something different !

  11. Austria?

  12. nothing to do with what it means, as fairly obvious. But would be great to know if anyone else remembers where this was amusingly displayed for many years at a modest timber yard in surrey.

  13. Chris, you've got me with that one? Do they import Canadian Lumbar?

  14. no, and i'm sorry but have been super-cryptic even with the clue. It really is one of those "if you know then you know".

    Apologies for piggy-backing your thread.

  15. schweigekilometer

  16. Some very warm guesses and clearly some of you have ridden the road; from what I was told the signs only went up recently. As BigJimmy said earlier it is a courtesy signal between riders but not so common in the UK.

The B500 runs for approximately 60km from Baden-Baden through the Black Forest to Freudenstadt and is a Mecca for motorcyclists. About 2Km into the rise up the mountain this sign is shown on both sides about every 200 metres for a couple of Km's. I asked the hotel owner what they were all about and she explained that from this weekend until mid September the Air ambulance helicopter will be heard at least once or twice a week attending motorcyclist accidents. The German government doesn't want to spoil the enjoyment of the motorcyclists so is trying to calm things down by being "friendly" and hence the sign is essentially to say "welcome, have fun but be careful". There are now speed limits of 50, 70 and 100kph but they change so frequently and it would be very easy to get into trouble. If any of you know Ramsay Hairpin on the Isle of Man then that is what will suddenly present itself on this road.

  17. ^ Yes my pillion passenger is still suffering from the rapid acceleration and braking :(

  18. Not at all Chris, it's what we all do when talking bollocks over a pint or two:joy:
