dont know it either. we stay other end in Bad Grund. make sure you get along to Kyffhäuser. its a few miles of more than 30 really twisty bends up a hill. at the bottom is a good parking spot to bike watch and grab a brat. nutters hooning up that slope but definitely worth running up and down it a couple of times for the crack. but most of Harz is lovely big open sweepers through the mountains and forests - though unfortunately lots of forests have been cut down in the last few years.
We were there in 2023. The deforestation is primarily due to the decision, post WW2, to extensively plant even more spruce than there was already to provide wood for house rebuilding. Something of a monoculture, the opposite to bio-diversity, not a great idea in retrospect. The bark beetle, that spruce is particularly susceptible to, has had runaway success, aided by some drought years, which has killed off swathes of forest. It's a depressing sight, though there is an ongoing extensive replanting program of more varied and less susceptible trees. Obviously this will take many years to grow and become a productive, managed forest again.
yeah. the first ten years or so we were there it was very different and very green. even the roads seem different when you are not hooning through the forests but over hills. as you say, hopefully it will return - though not in our time
Eggy has 2 issues, rear brake light switch doesn't work and main beam isn't working from the switch but from the pass switch it works. Been so long since I rode it not sure just how the main beam switch works. Why do Ducati use Red threadlock on bodywork fasteners, I thought they were corroded in place they were so tight. Still have the MX125, seems my Son is holding on to it but without telling me. I'll add the DRZ when I subscribe, don't see the signature since my subscription ended.
This confused me on my Multi when I first brought it. The High beam is switched by pushing the passing 'trigger' forward. I was pressing the unused, at the time, spotlight switch. I think that's right, I remember having to actually read the manual.
35,000 miles oil change on the little red bomb … Shiney inside ! Also claimed some dosh back on the Michelin tyre cash back offer, sweet
Michelin had a cash back offer. He put a claim in and got some money back https://letmegooglethat.com/?q=michelin+cash+back+offer+2026
Finally got time to put the rear wheel back on the Monster followed by the silencer. Enrolled the help of the Mrs to stand on the brake pedal while I torqued up the required 230 Newtons. All sorted. Then went over to bro 2’s place and fixed his garage door. Did a really good job of bracing one of the metal arms which had snapped. That bit’s now stronger than the original. Cost absolutely nothing. Metalwork shop gave me the 30 x 300 steel which was scrap on the floor and the diy shop couldn’t be bothered to charge me for 4 short bolts. Result! Also did some redesign drawings on a mates house, extensions and reworking the internal layout. Emailed them back to England and the rest of the day was my own. Friday, cloudless day predicted so hopefully a big ride out. Maybe, to El Burgo and Ronda.
