Me too. Since retiring I am more relaxed, more confident, and less worried about breakdowns, speeding tickets, or crashes. So I can go faster than ever. I know this cannot last, but hey!
nope. at the weekend on a french autoroute we did a 20 mile section (completely empty it was) at an average speed of 160. I said average. My mate on his s1000rr breezed past me with ease and i was on the stops (180ish). fucking thing has 200+ bhp. bastard. I'm 48. I still ride quick but time and place and conditions are carefully considered first. A sunny day and an empty autoroute is just asking for it.
20 yrs of riding loud lambrettas to scooter rallies all over, with little in the way of insewerance or tax, has instilled a 6th sense. I can sniff a copper out. Gendarmes are even easier. The ones that don't encourage you that is. The French are brill.
some great comments on here....i do did the bikesafe course at cadwell several years but got personally got very little from it..i found it very disappointing. next year ive promised myself a couple of levels with CSS to really help my cornering technique..and, health and finances permitting, im intending to ride from england, through europe and into italy next summer and do some scratching along the way.
Have you not ridden abroad before, funky? If not you're missing out. It really is what motorbikes were made for.
Seriously mate, if you've not ridden abroad I'd be happy to join you for a weekend jolly somewhere. Plenty of decent roads within a couple of hours of Calais.
Think it probably is too easy to go very fast on a ZZR 1400, so may be its the right move selling and moving on but only you can be the judge of that. I'm 49 and currently getting my kicks riding a naked Speed Triple; feels fast but you wouldn't want to be over 100 for long!
