Hi there, My alternator has a red, white and black wire - this doesnt compare with the standard wiring diagram for the model red, white and yellow - any guidance on how the wires should be connected to the wiring harness?
A couple of the stator windings supply current for the ignition only. The other windings supply current separately, for the battery and lights only. So you need to work out which wires are for ignition and which are for lights.
Thanks Pete, dumb question perhaps, will the three wires have different outputs or should they all be the same? Charlie
Two wires both go to the regulator-rectifier, so they make a circuit to each other, but insulated from earth. The third wire is for ignition, so it makes a circuit via earth. Some time in the past 60 years somebody replaced the wires. Probably the old wires insulation had crumbled. They should have used the same colour codes cables. But didn't. Assuming you have a good circuit tester. If not you had better get one.
Thanks Pete, will get round to this shortly, have a decent multimeter but have been working at the wrong end with the switches. I think I can assume the red and white alternator wires are correct however will test first. Thanks again Charlie
