Don't make me rethink! It's taken me long enough to get here. Back to inspect the Ducati range. I already know that the Ducati range always wins on weight, but now it's a seat height battle!
This is like the worst episode of shed n buried ever. Just buy the gold star and be done with it. At least you’ll have the best looking ornament once the dust settles.
Its alright, but it's not super special looking to me. Specs https://www.motorcyclespecs.co.za/model/BSA/bsa_gold_star_22.html
The Ducati Scrambler with the low seat option, is exactly the same as the seat height on the BSA Gold Star. Both are taller than the Kawasaki Eliminator, although with the Kawasaki, I am not sure if I am sold on the looks. I just don't know. I think that I will stick with my plan of pissing off to the coast first, before visiting Fowlers to choose between the Kwacker and the BSA. Then it will be the winner v Ducati Scrambler The Ducati wins on weight and quality. The only thing that pisses me off is that "X" affair on the headlight, but since I don't see the headlight whilst riding, it is not a deal-breaker. And at my leisure, I will look again for anything else in the Suzuki and Honda ranges. And I will try out the Moto Guzzi V7 again for I didn't like it before, as the cylinders banged on my knees. That may of just of been me, I like the idea of having shaft drive. Fowlers now have the Guzzi range back after Guzzi dropped Fowlers to concentrate their Bristol operations with some bicycle shop. But Frasers do Guzzi, so I will go back sometime.
If you’re not liking the X thing on the headlight of the scrambler now I don’t think it’ll grow on you over time and if purchased it’ll feel like a rushed decision you’ll regret over time. I’m alway looking back as I shut the garage door with admiring eyes on my 900ss. The Guzzi makes a whole lot of sense for you with its twin cylinder charm, low seat, shaft drive and quality of built. I used to own a V50 years back and at 5’11” I didn’t feel the cylinders compromised the riding position as all. Hunts motorcycles have a couple in stock that they’ve had for a while and would probably be open to offers. The procrastination continues.
Have you ever thought it's not just the height of the seat it's the width as well. Your legs have to go round it before they go down
Not going to Manchester (nothing against the place) but I can get a Guzzi locally. I do have to physically try a bike. This is where I went wrong before. I just assumed that as the KTM was light, things would get better for me. Now, I know now that things are not going to get netter than I am now. If anything, they will get worse. Physically trying the Royal Enfields at Frasers confirmed to me that they are not right for me. The list at the moment is: Kawasaki Eliminator BSA Gold Star Yamaha MT07 Auto (or not auto for about £450 less) Moto Guzzi V7 Ducati Scrambler All available new either from Fowlers, Frasers, or Riders. The only one that I've physically tried is the Kawasaki, but no longer going on kerb weight but ease.
And 2) I checked my driving license situation on the DVLA web site. It's all good I haven't heard anything, but I know (from past experience) that the DVLA Medical Group are vicious bastids. They are not above playing dirty tricks on people.
my dad has a BSA Goldstar and so do a few of his mates . Perfect for bimbiling along the lanes etc . He's done a couple of thousand miles so far and all seems good so far . He's 80 next year and kick starting british singles and twins is getting harder and harder for him so pressing a button instead for a lot of these older guys is the way to go .
Meant to post here, but it went to the wrong forum . . . . . Much to think about. The V7 Sport is £9745 making it only slightly less than the Ducati. It is vastly more than the Kawasaki Eliminator, but the shaft drive appeals to me. Chain maintenance is a pain that I can do without And I have never owned a Guzzi. I've tried but the daler (three Cross Monocycles tossed me about and lied) have always let me down. Both Fowlers and Frasers do Guzzi so it would work for me.
A new 2025/2026 Moto Guzzi V7 generally ranges from £7,745 to £9,745 in the UK, depending on the model. The entry-level V7 Stone starts around £7,745–£8,495, while the higher-spec V7 Special is roughly £8,195–£8,945, and the top-tier V7 Sport is priced around £9,745. Would you consider second hand?
Only from a local dealer, like Fowlers or Frasers. The principle object is to get rid of the KTM by any means possible without having to take it very far.
My dad before he lost his hair, poor bugger. Not the greatest looking bike but I have some history with it.
