Hi All. Hopefully someone can shed some light on an issue I have encountered today. I have a 2015 1200s After a 100odd mile ride today, when pulling up at home I stalled and when I tried to restart her I had a low battery message and suspension recallibrating message. She will not start and it is if the battery is flat wirh head lights flickering etc. During the day I stopped and started quite a few times with no sign of a low battery. I have plugged in my optimal so will see what it's like in the morning but I wondered if this was something anyone else had experience. Any help and ideas gratefully received cheers Paul
It very much sounds like a very discharged battery. It may not be able to be recharged. What voltage is it showing?
Your battery is toast. Something very similar happened to a friend of mine whilst we were touring in France. No problem all day, stopping at petrol stations and cafes. but a petrol stop in the afternoon resulted in the bike not starting. No warnings or hints anything wrong until then. We thought it was the battery or the generator but couldn't work out which. Turned out all it needed was a new battery. My advice, even if your Optimate resurrects your battery it will only be a temporary fix. That battery will let you down again - it needs replacing.
I had a similar situation, bike was a little reluctant to start but when I stopped for a coffee it wouldn’t start at all. Recovery jump started it for me and I rode home. The dealer recommended fitting a new battery (bike was only 18 months old). I keep it on a battery tender all the time now anytime its going to be more than a couple of days until I go out again. I have a tracker fitted which might be some of the issue
After a full night on the Optimate the charger was showing 13v 0 amp charge. the voltage on battery when charger removed was 12.75 turned ignition on and plumetted to 11 volts. Looks like battery is toast, hopefully nothing else wrong. it is a Yuasa Super MF perfecta YT12b-BS is that a wise replacement or any better options, I came from a Honda blackbird which seemed to start with 1 revolution in a nano second, my Duke has always seemed very slow ( in comparison ) to turn over and takes a few revolutions to start
BTW folks thanks for all your replies I will swap out the battery and keep you posted. I was concerned as I had been away all weekend on her and had no starting issues at all.
Yausa YT12-BS is an excellent choice. Try and get it from a source likely to have a good turnover, as old stock may last no longer than your present one if not properly charged in storage. Try Tayna online - I've used them and they know their stuff. https://www.tayna.co.uk/motorcycle-batteries/
Hi Coman, thanks for tip but was desperate to try a new battery so picked one up from Halfords. The bike started up no problem so hopefully that is the issue resolved Thanks all
