This evening we watched "I Swear" which was funny and moving in equal measure. Then we watched the very first episode of Peaky Blinders as Doris has never seen it before.
Suez: 24hrs that broke the British empire. Interesting documentary on Ch4, similar or by the makers of the Rise of the Nazi’s series. The names have changed and different aggressors but it all seems similar to events in the Middle East today?
Been to the cinema a couple of times, both with a Scottish theme. Glenrothan is a comedy-drama about two estranged brothers and the future of the family distillery. Pleasant enough but won’t bother the nominations committee. California Schemin’ is the story of two Scottish rappers who get knocked back at an audition and then reinvent themselves as Californians and subsequently get a recording contract. As the intro says, based on a true lie and we enjoyed that far more. Tomorrow we are off to see Michael.
Michael which is a biopic on the life of Michael Jackson, starting from his "childhood" in Gary, Indiana up to the end of the Victory tour. Very well acted & performed, and goes a long way to explaining some of his issues in later life. It's also a good reminder of how groundbreaking he was as an artist in many respects. We thoroughly enjoyed it. The credits suggest a second film is on the way...
decided to catch up on "7-Up "on ITV as I hadn't seen it for over 14 years. Last one ever to be shown this year, and sadly without Michael Apted. The people filmed throughout are two years younger than me so can relate well.
just started season 2 of HPI, the superior French version & not the U.S. one. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt14060708/?ref_=ext_shr_lnk
Watched Get Carter last night. Hadn't seen it before but as there was nowt else on and it's supposed to be a great classic of '70's British cinema I thought I'd give it a go. Have to say I found it a bit boring. I liked the gritty '70's streetscapes and the soundtrack was truly period authentic but other than the surprise ending I thought it slow paced and lacking tension. Plus I couldn't get over the appearance as Keith of a very young Alun Armstrong - Brian Lane in New Tricks. I was expected him to show up in trench coat and cycle clips pushing a bicycle. Caine put in a good performance but as a young string bean of a man he didn't really convince physically as a hard nut. When it comes to revenge thrillers and a sense of menace I thought he had far more presence in his later years as Harry Brown.
Should i marry a Murderer. on Netflix. a local story. i know the twins involved. the lads are mates with Robert. excellent watch. there is almost deffo somebody missing from the story..
Absolutely nothing for the last three hours thanks to Virgin “bastard” Media’s utter incompetence. Of course the website is about as much use as a third armpit too.
Just found a workaround for this if anyone else is struggling, just select the show you want to watch via the guide and select watch from the start instead of live.
