Icon On Reflection Would You Buy Again?

  1. This is the list:
    Kawasaki Eliminator £6400
    Ducati Scrambler £10,400
    BSA Gold Star £7000
    Yamaha MT07/9 from £7408
    Guzzi V7

The Ducati Scrambler is way the most expensive choice for what will just be a toy. At some point, maybe after Paignton but before Spain II, I will visit Riders (either in Bristol or Bridgewater) to check out if I can mount and dismount easily. If I can't, then the idea is dropped immediately (I am not making the same mistake again!) but if I can, then I may buy one (and live with the foul "X" across the headlight) but my question to those that have had one, is were/are you happy with the Scrambler?

  2. Two of my mates had Dessert Sled's, both sold them a couple of years ago, but now deeply regret it. I didn't get the bike at all until I rode one, so easy to ride and lots of fun.

  3. I bought a Classic when they came out in 2015. I haven't regretted it, it's a great wee bike.

  4. Unless you are a dwarf you'll find the scrambler quite cramped.

  5. We have 2 Icons in the family, a 2016 and a 2024 NG. Neither will getting a new owner anytime soon. One thing you need to be aware of, the 803 Scrambler requires a valve shim service every 7500 miles. The NGs have an annual inspection service and a 2 year or 9000 mile oil service. Andy

  6. As per Hugo's post, having tried a scrambler myself, and having met you @Android853sp, I'm surprised you find your's OK for any distance.

  7. Tall seat option and aftermarket adjustable footrests fitted. Did 2000 miles in 10 days up to Scotland and back. The sides of my boots took a bit of a battering though :D :joy: Andy

  8. The only issue I have is that the seat is a bit on the hard side. I believe that later models have a better seat I'm not sure if they can be retro fitted to the older ones.

  9. IIRC the answer is no, the later model has a different seat plate so the rear fixing is in a different place. The first gen seat is easily repadded using the original seat cover though. Andy

  10. I have had two Icons. The first when they came out in2015,The second was the updated version in 2024.Great bikes, with the latest model seeming to be a bit more refined than the original. The replacement of the cable clutch with a hydraulic clutch being a great improvement.I had my Icon fitted with the Ducati Quickshifter and the Full Throttle handlebars.
Great fun bikes and easy to live with. The only thing I would like to do is find some footpeg lowering kit.

  11. I fitted a gel pad into mine. It's still pretty firm though, there's not enough available depth to get enough layers of foam with different densities.

Much to think about. The V7 Sport is £9745 making it only slightly less than the Ducati. It is vastly more than the Kawasaki Eliminator, but the shaft drive appeals to me. Chain maintenance is a pain that I can do without And I have never owned a Guzzi. I've tried but the dalers (three Cross Monocycles tossed me about and lied) have always let me down. Both Fowlers and Frasers do Guzzi so it would work for me.

  13. If you are concerned about spending the cash, why not go secondhand? I test rode a 1100 scrambler (I forget the version), and apart from the suspension needing a setup (it was very soft) it was a good bike. I however wouldn't consider the 800 over the 1100.

  14. Not so much the money but being a happy soul. It's not so much about test riding but getting on and off with riding kit on. And it's about getting shot of the KTM.

  15. I've just looked at that 50/50 deal. Very tempting. When I get home next week, I will visit a branch of Riders and try getting off and on one. I think there's a lowered seat height option as well.

  16. I'm keeping mine. I have a 2015 Icon. I changed the exhaust, suspension and a few other mods. I took this across the desert in Morocco a couple of years ago. It has been a faultless ride and is great fun. I never regret a ride on this bike. I have seven bikes of all different types and this one is a keeper. The seat can be a little hard and I would change that. Mine has been tuned and was first used on the track. As you can imagine, it is a little rocket. You can pick up an older model for a few grand. So worth it.
