  1. Hi,
    It's a 1998 with 23,000 miles on it,

When I got it home went though some of it's issues:
Wrong battery with a dead cell & bike not charging.
Connecting wires poor connection, but still not charging.
Checked the Stator all OK ordered new rectifier. (Original was single phase new three phase).
Now charging 13.9-14V. Fitted new correct battery.
Fuel leak - O ring replaced on return quick connector.
Changed oil and filter, checked crank filter no sign of any chrome or aluminum bits anywhere!:D

Checked Fuel hoses inside tank and replaced filter, all good.
New v power fuel with injector cleaner added (300 miles done so far)

Checked belts ok, told they were done two years ago? ordered new belts and bearings.
It has 45mm Termignoni's with the correct chip.
Plugs and HT leads all ok, it has a very slight misfire noticeable at 1,500 - 2,000
Plan to check TPS & sink Throttle bodies next, to see if that cures it?
Then check & Rocker arms and valve clearances.

Anything else I should be looking at?

    Regards Phil,

Need a right hand side lower panel, as this one has a bit broken off.
If anyone has one, any colour & even if it has damage but is repairable?

  6. Sometimes it's better to not have perfection! It allows you to be more relaxed as you are not constantly fretting that something might get scratched!
Check you the threads on cleaning the fog from the headlights.

  11. A good bike painter should be able to plastic weld a piece to your fairing to infill the piece that's missing, it you are going to paint the replacement panel anyway, it's worth trying to repair your own I think. I had a tail fairing with a chunk around 100x100mm missing off it, and my panel beater welded a piece of plastic in there and after painting it, you would never know it was repaired.

  12. I did here of a good bike painter a while back. He only did oil on canvas though.

  13. Mines a 1998 and doesn't have a side stand switch. Did only later ones have them or has it been removed?

The side stand stays down and the lean isn't excessive, I'm assuming it may have been modified.

I remember when they were new in Carnells in Liverpool and my mate grabbed the L/H bar of one and heard the stand fly up. He was shouting me whilst holding the bike up by one handle bar. It was a row of about 10 new Ducati's!

God knows how many would have been damaged if it had gone over?

  14. My '98 916 doesn't have a switch and it has the 'suicide' stand that pops up by itself as would have had yours.

I'm happy with that setup but they're easy to modify to stay down if you want, just requires a different spring plate.

When they were made with a stay-down stand then they would have a switch, IIRC some of the early switch setups were a real PITA because they had no neutral (or clutch) interlock so you couldn't start the engine and leave it warming in neutral on the stand as the switch would prevent that.
