Paignton

  1. Fecking hate the place!

Let me put that into context:

    It's Fecking cold!

They call it the English Riveria and that's a laugh!

It's E.R. bike night tonight and I could walk down to see if anyone shows up. I cannot be bothered.

All the coffee shops along the beach road are trailers with outside seating. That works in Spain but not in England!

There a cold wind from the north and Berkeley, where I live, is the same temperature as here.

Most of the 'holidaymakers" are northerners. They think it warm, MATE!
Most have their tops off, as well as many of the men!

    BUT, BE POSITIVE!

    The hotel is great.

I can explore by train. I am on a branch line from Newton Abbot, so getting to the platform cafes at Totnes and Saltash is easy. The next stop is Torquay, that I can explore.

And I still don't know what to get to replace the KTM. Making up my mind is not a strong point of mine!

  2. Why aren't you in Dawlish? They have a go kart track -well they did when I was a kid!

  3. Went to have a look at the E,R. Bike Night. it's quite a thing with must be a few hundred bikes. Ambulance and plenty of food outlets. I was trying to get ideas of a low bike I could get - apart from Harley, of which, there were many. The only thing I could see was a BMW F800 owned by a lady shorter than me. You can get (and she had) lowering kits that lower the frame, as well as a lower seat.

BMW are expensive, though. I'll keep that one in reserve.

  4. Pics?

  5. I was there and Torquay today I’m staying a few miles up the road. It was windy, chilly and showery at times today but I wouldn’t say it’s cold, I just had a T shirt on
I’d considered going to bike night but as I’d have to go in the car I couldn’t be arsed.

  6. The wind is cold. It's coming straight from the North and strong enough for gulls just to hover in the sky without bothering to flap.

With the temperature about 14 or 15, plus wind chill, I'd say cold! At least no rain yet.

Off to Spain again in three weeks time. Hopefully, it will be a bit warmer than last time. Not getting my hopes up though.

  7. I used to be indecisive but now I am not so sure.

  8. I am in Devon (I think) at the brill Signal Box cafe at Totnes station. My happy place (for a moaning fecker) but after another coffee here, I will return to Paignton for some sea air.

  9. In three weeks time, at about now, I will arrive in Spain - another happy place!

  10. You need to jump on the steam train to Kingswear and then the ferry across to Dartmouth.

Start Bay/Dartmouth is my spiritual home having spent 6 to 8 weeks at Beesands every Summer whilst growing up plus other random holidays through the year.

  11. Gonna see if I can do the steam train on Sunday. I did the one in Brizzle for my Mum when she was alive, years ago.

Tomorrow, I will try to get to Saltash station, for there's a platform cafe there that I used last year.

  12. Did you manage to avoid the hail showers, I was at Brixham today so not far from you, we got caught in a couple of heavy showers.
Brixham is nice, proper working harbour.
Were heading back tomorrow, well half way to Norfolk stopping off at Basingstoke

  13. Great place.

  16. I did the, Signal Box cafe on Saltash Station today. I could not be bothered to move, so had two iced lattes, an Americano and then a can of coke. Weather OK- just.

Tomorrow (Saturday) I will do nothing for I am knackered. But I will probably walk into town for a coffee.

My mind has been blank about what bike will get. The only thing that I know for sure is that the KTM will be disposed of.

  17. Probably a good decision. I hear any KTM not made in Austria is out of stock with lengthy delays?!

  18. I don't think I appreciate how good a place is, where I live. It's exactly the same weather temperature and rain as here in Paignton. London is one degree c warmer

Well, it was an experiment. I'm done with it now. I would rather go to London or Worcester. More to do.

I have more vitriol to post, but will give it a rest.

  19. There's a huge reason the weather is the number one topic of conversation in the UK. Bad weather means its probably best to stay at home.

  20. Perry I agree there is very little to do in train stations. Arguably Paddington has more food outlets and multiple rest rooms.
Maybe you should take up train spotting.
